Sabrina was a patient woman. She had tolerated being the other woman in secret for years, so she could certainly handle the current situation.
She looked at Martin with deep affection.
"Honey…"
Martin took her hand, his voice gentle. "Why didn't you tell me sooner that this was for Bella's dowry?"
Sabrina replied, "It was just a small thing, really. With the wedding date not even set, how could I go around announcing it?
"If something were to happen and the engagement fell through, telling people would only harm Bella's reputation.
"Martin, can you promise me that until the wedding date is officially set, you won't tell anyone about this? Please?
"You always have to prepare for the worst. If they don't end up getting married, Bella's reputation will be ruined.
"Don't tell Brandon or Colin, and especially not Lillian's side. Okay?"
Martin looked a bit troubled.
He remembered how his two sons had relentlessly grilled him after Sabrina bought a bracelet for a few million dollars. This wasn't a few million; this was over ten million.
It was a huge sum of money. He could probably smooth things over with his daughter, but his two sons would never let it go without a proper explanation.
Thinking about his sons gave Martin a headache.
If he told them the money was for a house for Bella, as part of her dowry, they might be able to accept it.
But if he couldn't explain it clearly, they would likely raise hell for a long time.
Sabrina sensed his hesitation and squeezed his hand. "Honey, Bella's career is thriving right now, and she has a bright future ahead of her. She's a capable young woman.
"Our baby will be well taken care of with a sister like her.
"But Sebastian was married to Lillian before. Even though it was a secret marriage, some people still knew about it.
"So, if something goes wrong before the wedding date is set and outsiders find out, and if malicious people spread rumors, I'm afraid my Bella won't have a place in our social circle anymore.
"Her career path will become very difficult as well."
After Sabrina laid it all out like that, Martin felt it would be inappropriate to refuse.
So he nodded. "Don't worry, honey. I promise I won't tell anyone, including the three kids.
"Once Bella and Sebastian are actually married, it won't be too late to tell everyone."
Sabrina smiled happily, the fatigue on her face vanishing instantly.
Seeing her so cheerful, Martin felt a sense of relief.
He realized that making concessions to see his beautiful wife smile was worth it.
Seeing that he had agreed, Bella immediately stepped forward to thank him.
Martin felt an unprecedented sense of power, as if he were strong enough to protect them for a lifetime.
This powerful sense of accomplishment filled him with joy, and his emotions soared.
Meanwhile, Brandon and Colin had both received the news. After finishing their work, their worlds came crashing down.
The two brothers knew exactly how much money was in the family's joint account.
A few million a couple of days ago, and now over ten million today. Just like that, more than twenty million dollars was gone, and the family coffers were suddenly empty.
The two brothers were in a panic.
"Brandon, has Dad lost his mind? Does he not want to live anymore? We don't have that much money left, how can he keep squandering it like this? Does he want us all to go broke?"
Brandon was so angry he was pale with rage.
"Let's go. We're going to find him."
"I just went to Dad's office. He's not there. His secretary said he had an urgent matter and left a while ago."
Brandon looked at the time on the transaction notification, his brow furrowed. "Didn't Lillian go back to Halfridge Villas to see Grandma and Mom? Let's go pick her up first, then we'll go home."
Colin said, "How about this, Brandon, you go get Lillian, and I'll head home first. Something this big has happened, I should go back and keep an eye on things."
"Alright."
