She took a step forward and immediately helped support Leonard as well. “What’s wrong? Haven’t you recovered yet? How can this be? Ethan kept telling me you were fine. How is this fine? You don’t even have the strength to stand for a few minutes! What are you all waiting for? Help him to the car.”
Dr. Smith grumbled, “He hasn’t recovered yet. He’s just killing himself trying to get back to see you. Let’s just go home.”
Lillian was deeply worried. If something were to happen, she would regret it forever.
They rushed back to Halfridge Villas, where Leonard was taken directly to a medical room that had been prepared in the villa.
As he lay down on the bed, Leonard kept insisting, “I’m fine, really. In fact, I’ve never felt better.”
Dr. Smith rolled his eyes. “Do you want to keep that life of yours or not?”
“You should listen to the doctor,” Lillian added.
After giving Leonard an injection, the doctor finally let out a sigh of relief.
“If I had known this would happen, I would have said you’re better off recovering here. You might have even gotten better faster.”
Lillian said, “So I was right. You never fully recovered. I was guessing something was holding you back.
Leonard, why do you have to make people worry so much?”
As soon as she said that, Dr. Smith interjected, “Who do you think this was for? To double the effectiveness of your treatment, do you know how much blood he gave?
And then, to help you recover faster so you could get out and live your life, he gave even more.
At this point, he’s probably replaced all the blood in his body for you.”
“Ahem…”
I’ve been like this since I was a child. Besides, I have Dr. Smith, don’t I?
With him around, I won’t die.
I’ve been through this countless times growing up. Don’t worry.”
Dr. Smith stood nearby, rolling his eyes so hard they could have touched the ceiling. “That’s right, you won’t die. You just lie in bed all day and let me work myself to the bone day and night. You’re just trying to work this old man to death so you won’t have anyone nagging you anymore.”
Leonard chuckled. “Still, thank you for covering for me.”
“Covering for you? With me?” Lillian asked curiously.
“His parents,” Dr. Smith explained. “To this day, they still don’t know. They think he’s in good health and busy with work.”
