"I knew that I had to work hard to have a good future.
"Ultimately, I just wasn't born with Lillian's luck. I could never have that kind of easy life."
Sebastian immediately disagreed.
"Of course not. You're the one who deserves the best life. You should have a better life than Lillian and get much more."
As Bella listened to him, she felt a small, secret surge of triumph.
Lillian's life couldn't be easy right now. Even if public opinion had turned in her favor, she had no cards left to play.
She was divorced, had a child, and possessed no real skills. Her startup was going nowhere; she had probably burned through all her cash with no results.
Her company was likely on the verge of collapse. The scandal was all over the news, yet she hadn't even used the opportunity to promote her business. She was probably sick and on the verge of death.
When she thought about it, Lillian's entire life seemed pathetic.
She had been born with so much, only to end up with nothing.
But she was different. Her starting hand in life was nothing like Lillian's, but now, what did Lillian have that could compare to her?
She had thoroughly won this battle.
Lillian's home was now hers. Lillian's family was hers.
Lillian's husband was about to marry her, and Lillian's son would soon be her son too.
She had taken everything that was Lillian's. And now, besides being sick, Lillian probably had nothing left.
However, as Bella reveled in her victory, she failed to notice something crucial.
When Sebastian said these things, it was as if he wasn't talking to her at all, but to himself.
"Sebastian, I know you're busy, even on the weekend. I already bought my own car, so just let me get some practice driving. You don't need to take me. Go home and get some rest, okay?"
Sebastian never liked high-maintenance women.
Bella was sensible and knew her place, a quality he found very appealing.
He nodded and replied, "Alright. Drive safe, then."
"My driving is pretty good."
As she said it, she thought of Lillian, and her smile faltered.
Why was Lillian such a good driver, anyway? Where did she even learn that?
But Bella didn't dwell on it. Weren't spoiled heiresses supposed to be good at that sort of thing—partying and having fun?
