So what if Lillian was back?
She had still lost, completely.
When Bella returned to the hotel that night, the first thing she did was look for Debbie, but she wasn't there. Bella figured she had probably taken her young model out for the night.
Debbie slept in every morning and stayed out late every night. In a way, her life was much more comfortable than Bella's.
It was almost enviable. She wasn't short on cash, she had a male companion, and most importantly, she had a very wealthy best friend to back her up. Life was good.
Bella decided she needed to marry Sebastian as soon as possible and have a child of her own.
And for her to truly succeed, her child would have to usurp the inheritance meant for Lillian's son.
Wasn't Debbie living this comfortably today precisely because her son had successfully secured his position?
If Bella's own son couldn't do the same, if Lillian's son ended up getting the upper hand, all her efforts would have been for nothing.
The Blake Group had to end up in her hands. Only then would she have truly won.
As Bella walked back to her room, her mind was filled with these long-term calculations.
Debbie's current lifestyle was a clear blueprint for success laid out right before her.
The ultimate victory was getting her son into power.
Lillian's son was currently being groomed by the Blake elders, even sent abroad for a top-tier education fit for an heir.
He was sure to become a formidable man in the future. Then again, who knew when the Blake elders might pass away, leaving Lillian's son to fall back into her hands.
Bella didn't know how to raise a son well; after all, she’d never had one and lacked the experience.
But she knew exactly how to ruin a child.
That would give them a chance to figure something else out.
Over the phone, Sabrina told Bella, “Your brothers, Brandon and Colin, are planning to go find Lillian tonight. There are two key people in this mess: me, and Lillian. Your father won't let me come out and apologize, so they have to try and work on Lillian.
If Lillian agrees to come forward and explain that the whole thing was a misunderstanding, maybe the Mercer family's situation can be salvaged.”
Bella rolled her eyes. “Mom, when did you become as naive as them?
Don't you know what Lillian is like? She's incredibly hard-hearted. I don't know if two years in prison changed her, or if being on the brink of death has made her unusually cold.
She stopped caring about her father and brothers a long time ago.
How many times has this happened? Whenever the family was in trouble, Brandon and Colin went to her, begged her for help. Did she ever lift a finger?
And this time is even worse. She's being torn apart online. It would be a miracle if she stepped up to take the blame.”
