The secretary seemed to read Sebastian’s mind. After all, he knew about the money Bella had borrowed.
With the wedding fast approaching, this was a matter of considerable importance.
“Mr. Blake, should I find out exactly how much Miss Ward invested?”
“No need,” Sebastian said.
Investigate? If he didn't, Bella would find a way to cover the losses herself. Given her personality, the last thing she would want was for him to see her as incompetent. She knew what he liked, and under these circumstances, she would never bring the problem to him. But if he proactively investigated and she found out, the situation would change completely. Bella would undoubtedly ask him for help.
That would not be a small sum, and he had never intended to invest that much money in Bella. Even if she never paid back the three hundred million, he could simply write it off as a wedding gift. But if she had mortgaged her shares, the total could easily exceed a billion. Sebastian had never felt that a woman like Bella was worth that much.
The three hundred million was just for show, a way to maintain a generous reputation. The environment Sebastian grew up in had long since shaped his views on money. He had a price tag for everyone and everything, clear and precise in his mind. He would never spend a penny more than he had to.
Understanding Sebastian’s intentions, the secretary said no more.
“Miss Ward, we’re well aware of what happened with the Mercer Group today. This thing you brought us could become a worthless piece of paper at any moment. We’re running a business here, not a charity. I’m sure you understand that. The interest rate we gave you wasn’t high, and a hundred million might not be a huge amount for you. But you’ve already borrowed two hundred million from us. Asking for another hundred million now won’t be so easy.”
“I don’t like your tone,” Bella said. “I have a black card and I have shares. I can use either as collateral. Your interest rates aren’t exactly high, but they aren't low either, are they?”
“Miss Ward, we must remind you of something. Your principal debt with us is more than two hundred million. There was another large sum, an agreement you signed along with your mother and the Mercer brothers. Have you forgotten?”
