Bella estimated that the Mercer Group wouldn't go under immediately. But Martin definitely didn't have that kind of cash on hand right now. Even if he did, a sum that large would probably give him a heart attack. Given the Mercer Group's current state, they were likely already considering making Sabrina issue a public apology.
Realizing this, Bella knew she had to find a way to cover her mother's debt herself.
“Go home right now. Don’t show any emotion. If anyone asks, just say your losses are manageable and that you didn’t invest much. Do you understand?”
Sabrina was sharp enough to understand. She knew if Martin found out about the money, it would just add fuel to the fire and might even infuriate him. That’s why she had come to Bella the moment the news broke.
She nodded. “I know, Bella. That’s why I came to you first. What should I do now? Tell me, what should I do?”
“I’ll figure out a way to settle your debts, so don’t worry,” Bella said. “This is a critical time for my engagement to Sebastian. You can’t afford to make any mistakes that could jeopardize our wedding. That’s what’s most important right now.”
Sabrina nodded again. “I know, I know. I’ll go home and stay there.”
As she stood up to leave, she suddenly asked, “Bella, with our net worth taking such a hit, do you think they’ll try to force me to apologize now? Your wedding has been scheduled. If I have to apologize, will it affect you two?”
