“What’s with all the secret looks? Am I not in on the joke?” Lillian asked.
After getting to know Leonard Prescott and Ethan Hayes better, Lillian had learned to read the glances they exchanged.
There was no way they could hide their subtle looks from her.
“Not at all, not at all, Ms. Mercer. I wouldn’t dare,” Ethan said.
“The Mercer family is going to issue a public apology, so you’ve been vindicated. Ms. Mercer, this is a good thing, right?”
Leonard smiled. “I was afraid it would upset you, so I told him to keep a close eye on the situation. I didn’t want any unexpected changes to ruin your mood.”
Leonard didn’t care about anything else; right now, all that mattered was Lillian.
That included even the slightest emotional fluctuation.
Lillian said, “The Mercer family’s apology is one forced by circumstances.
It’s an apology for the sake of their bottom line. The public isn’t stupid these days.
What were they doing before? They spent all that time dragging my name through the mud. Even though people didn’t see the evidence, they can probably figure out the role the Mercers played in all this.
Not apologizing then, but suddenly doing it now… I think it’s a little too late.
But their business is none of my concern. I’ve already released the surveillance footage, my name is cleared, and I have nothing left to worry about.”
Lillian truly had nothing to worry about.
In fact, the only reason she hadn’t moved to crush the Mercer Group yet was that she was still holding out hope that her grandmother would wake up.
Leonard seemed to understand this, which was why he hadn’t made any moves either.
“You have a pretty good attitude, Ms. Mercer.”
Leonard shot Ethan a look, and Ethan immediately shut his mouth.
Leonard walked Lillian to the helipad. “Don’t work too hard. Delegate what you can to your staff.
If you’re short-staffed, have Ethan start recruiting immediately.
She even skipped her visit to the factory, holding the meeting via video conference from her office.
Any other matters were handled through calls and video chats with Celia Bennett.

Meanwhile.
Sabrina Ward was picked up by a car sent by Martin Mercer at six in the morning, before she was even fully awake.
She had just enough time to quickly get dressed before she had to leave.
Bella Ward, still uneasy, had been woken by the commotion and decided to accompany her mother to the Mercer Group headquarters.
Every employee at the Mercer Group looked like the walking dead, their faces gaunt from the grueling overtime.
The overtime had taken its toll, and they all looked as if their life force had been drained.
Resentment from the long hours was high, so naturally, no one was in a good mood.
