After about two or three minutes, the old man released her hand.
“Ms. Mercer, your recent condition isn’t the best. It seems you’re still far too tired.
“You need more rest. The minor procedure you had was very successful, and it helped your body recover a great deal. For now, at least, you’re out of danger.
“However, being out of danger is only temporary. You must take excellent care of yourself.
“Follow-up treatments are essential. You’re fortunate that Mr. Clarke found me. I can help you condition your body.
“In about two or three months, once your physical condition is at its peak, you can undergo the next phase of your original treatment plan.
“After that, with another year or eighteen months of continued conditioning, your body should return to a state indistinguishable from normal health.
“Ms. Mercer, you are very lucky indeed!”
Even though Mr. Peregrine had said all this, Stephen’s heart remained lodged in his throat.
“Mr. Peregrine, did you say Lillian has already had a surgery?”
Mr. Peregrine nodded.
Lillian quickly emphasized, “A minor procedure, Stephen. Don’t worry so much. And you heard him, Mr. Peregrine said the surgery was very successful, and I’ve recovered very well.”
Stephen retorted, “Something this major happened, and no one in our family knew. If we had, we would never have let you go through it without a loved one by your side!”
Lillian said, “It’s all in the past. It’s fine. Leonard took great care of me, and I had many people looking after me. Honestly, my condition was so bad back then, I didn’t want to make the people I love worry and fear for me.”
Mr. Peregrine added, “Mr. Clarke, you should relax as well. Lillian is blessed with great fortune. She will be fine.
“The most important thing right now is to prioritize rest. She must rest well and absolutely must not overwork herself.”
