He gently tugged on Lillian’s sleeve. “What is it?”
“It’s a display piece from my mother’s family,” Lillian said. “I don’t know why it’s here.”
“Is it authentic?” Leonard asked.
Although they were far away, the large screens were broadcasting a detailed, 360-degree close-up of the piece. Lillian could see it clearly.
“Yes, it’s authentic. I played with it when I was a child.
“My mother learned how to do a traditional updo from a tutorial, and I took this set out to try on.
“I was young then and didn’t have much hair, so it wasn’t secure. One of the hairpins fell and a tiny corner chipped off. The stone has such a distinct grain that the chip was impossible to hide.”
As she spoke, she pointed it out to Leonard. “Look, you can see it if you look closely. That corner is still missing a piece.”
Leonard followed her finger and saw it. “You’re right. There is a piece missing.”
“I guarantee it’s the real thing,” Lillian said firmly. “It looks like there’s a problem within the Lancasters.”
Stephen and the others had only just arrived in the capital, yet someone below them already dared to pull a stunt like this.
After speaking, Lillian realized she was still standing and quickly pulled Leonard back down to their seats.
She couldn’t afford to be rash.
However, since the item was here at the auction, she absolutely had to get it back.
Now that she knew it had been stolen, the most important thing was not to let it slip through her fingers again.
She could never forgive herself if the piece was lost right in front of her.
They were also listening intently, especially Bella.
Leonard was also one of the most attentive listeners, as the item was connected to the Lancaster family’s history, which made him particularly interested.
Bella heard the story too, but she didn’t give it any extra thought and certainly didn’t realize the piece came from the Lancaster family.
However, the mention of Midvale caught Sebastian’s attention. He vaguely recalled that Lillian’s maternal family was from Midvale.
And weren’t they in the jewelry business?
He wondered if this piece might have some connection to Lillian’s maternal family, the Lancasters.
At that moment, Bella suddenly grabbed Sebastian’s arm and said coquettishly, “Sebastian, I love this. For our wedding, I have a traditional-style reception dress, and this set would be the perfect accessory for it!”
