Before Sebastian could say anything, Bella had plenty to say.
Sebastian stared at Bella in surprise, feeling as if she had changed a lot. She wasn't the same person she used to be.
Wasn't she always so calm and unassuming? Why was she suddenly so competitive and grasping? It felt completely out of character.
But Sebastian's thoughts were quickly pulled away from that. He watched as Lillian turned and walked away decisively, her arm linked with that slender pretty boy's.
As they left, Sebastian looked at the man's back and felt a strange sense of familiarity, as if he had seen him somewhere before.
Where had he seen him?
He racked his brain, but couldn't place it.
Suddenly, Bella spoke up. "Why do I feel like I've seen that man's back somewhere before?"
Sebastian had been thinking the exact same thing but had come up with nothing.
"Where?" Maybe if Bella could remember, it would jog his own memory.
Bella shook her head. "I can't remember. But if I can vaguely recall his back, it must have been at some important occasion, right?"
Bella thought for a long time but couldn't place it. Her mind was filled with images of grand events, with no hospital scenes among them. She didn't think of that special hospital room, and the person inside whom she and Sebastian had been so desperate to visit…
So she quickly found an excuse for herself.
If she had a good enough reason to justify her hostility toward Lillian, Sebastian would probably understand. After all, she wasn't a saint. There was no need to be nice to Lillian at this point. It would be wrong to!
Sebastian didn't say much more. "It's getting late. We should head back."
Bella heard this and felt a wave of relief.
Meanwhile, Lillian and Leonard got into the car. Ethan had already finished the paperwork and was waiting inside with their prizes. The painting and the jewelry box were on the back seat, and they each took their respective items as they got in.
