Family on Their Knees Heart Turned to Ice novel Chapter 87

Bella walked in just in time to hear Sebastian’s last words.

“Do you even need to ask? It has to be Nathan.”

Sebastian snapped, “Whatever games he wants to play, can’t he do it in private? Why does he have to drag her to an event like this? Is he out of his mind?”

What the public didn’t know was that Old Mr. Blake was scheduled to make an appearance at this year’s conference. If his father saw Lillian with another man, what would he think?

Yes, his and Lillian’s marriage had never been publicly announced. But his grandfather had always held Lillian in high regard as his daughter-in-law. If he found out how things were between them now, and that Lillian was seeing someone else, he would certainly not be pleased. Moreover, his grandfather had attached certain conditions when he helped him secure the project.

No wonder Sebastian’s reaction was so volatile.

Bella said, “Some things you just can’t prevent. Let it go. Lillian has her own company now, right? Just think of it as her playing around, getting some exposure. If you’re really that worried, how about I handle the arrangements? At the conference, I can have her seated next to you. That way, you can keep an eye on her and make sure nothing goes wrong.”

Sebastian replied wryly, “You don’t have to be so diplomatic. Just say it: if she’s next to me, she’s less likely to embarrass herself.”

Bella offered a resigned smile. Her composure remained as graceful and serene as ever, a stark contrast to Lillian. Sebastian looked at Bella and said again, “If she were half the woman you are, she wouldn’t cause me so much trouble.”

Bella replied, “No matter what, Lillian is Noah’s mother.”

“She doesn’t deserve to be a mother. You were the one who had to sort out that whole mess at the daycare. If she had any maternal instincts, she wouldn't have ignored her son being ostracized by the other children, especially when she was the cause of it.”

The incident at the daycare, where the other children found out Noah’s mother was a murderer and started to isolate him, hadn't been ignored by Lillian. She had simply left the problem for its creators to solve. The Mercer and Blake families had paid a fortune to keep that secret buried, so how did a group of preschoolers find out so easily? It made their efforts seem like a joke. Since someone had set this up, let them clean up their own mess.

Bella smiled faintly. “I’ve been raising Noah for two years. We’re so close. How could I stand by and watch him be bullied? I had to get involved.”

Sebastian said, “If Noah didn’t still need her, I would make our son sever all ties with her.”

“Sebastian, don’t say that. She will always be Noah’s mother. And you two still need to have a second child together. Don’t make things too hostile. Saving Noah’s life is what’s most important.”

Not wanting to continue the topic, Sebastian steered the conversation back to work.

As she reluctantly made her way back to the front, Brandon rushed over and grabbed her arm.

“Lillian, what are you doing at this conference?”

Lillian shook him off. “Why shouldn’t I be here?”

Brandon hissed, keeping his voice low, “This is not the place for you. Stop making a scene. Everyone here is an industry elite, a top talent. You’ll only make a fool of yourself.”

Sometimes, when a situation is truly absurd, all you can do is laugh. A mocking smile spread across Lillian’s face, impossible to hide. She truly couldn’t understand how this could be her own brother.

Shaking him off again, Lillian walked straight to the front row. Since she was back in this world of talent, elites, and ambition, why should she keep a low profile? Let them all watch as she reclaimed the glory that was rightfully hers.

As she walked, she overheard a nearby conversation: “I heard there are some interesting games this year, all by random draw. Please don’t let me get picked with Bella’s group. They’re beasts. I don’t want my PK match to turn into a slaughter.”

“Exactly. I wonder who’s going to be the unlucky one to draw Bella this year.”
