I was however snapped out of these thoughts. when I heard the sound of my door creaking open and I sat up quickly, afraid that it was someone else, and turned in the direction of the door only to let out a sigh of relief when a mane of shiny pink hair came into view.

“Leilani!” She screamed, crying ugly as she ran over to wrap her sexy long arms around my neck (unrelated, but I don’t know why she’s refused to be a model.)

Tears fell freely down her face and her shoulders. shook as she held onto me so tight, I feared she would break my bones.

And heavens, I’ll be a liar if I said that her reaction didn’t shock me.

I do not know for how long we stayed there with her arms around my body like tentacles; But by the time she finally let go, the collar of my shirt was soaked through with her tears.

This time, she rose from the bed as if to distance herself from my madness, and I almost laughed when she wiped at her face angrily and sneered at me— even though her lips still trembled like

RIGHT?” But as if stopping to ponder over something, she suddenly asked; “How are you even awake if all of those happened to you?”

I smiled. “I wasn’t shot.”

“Alpha Caelum was the one who was shot.”

“Crazy! That’s strange!” She spat. The look of surprise on her face was almost comical, and I couldn’t blame her for it because even I still couldn’t wrap my head around the fact that Caelum would do anything like that.

The thought and images from that moment made me shudder slightly and I was only snapped out

my reverie when Maya continued to speak. She said; “I know that this may sound mean but I am

almost glad that he took the bullet for you. Maybe that’s just the beginning of his Karma!”

And at her words, I chuckled softly. However, before I could respond, my eyes darted to the door for a very brief moment and I froze in shock when I found Zevran standing there with a strange look in his eyes.

Goddess, he didn’t look exactly annoyed

especially after hearing what Maya had just said. He wasn’t even fazed by it and waved slowly over

his head with a small smile on his face.

For a moment, I was stunned into silence. So stunned that I couldn’t even move. I managed a slow wave back at him, smiling when Maya turned to see who I was waving at and froze when her eyes met Zevran’s.

And I could swear that she wanted to disappear!

She looked like a cartoon character with her

flushed face and extremely red ear tips. Embarrassed, she turned to me and whispered; “How long has he been standing there?”

“Shit, did he hear what I said?”

“You know I can hear you but you keep whispering.” Zevran cut in before I could respond, and goddess, I couldn’t help it. I laughed when she slapped her hand over her face and rose to her feet, bowing slightly to Zevran before rushing out through gritted teeth;

“I’m so sorry I said that, Alpha Zevran.” She whispered; “I didn’t really mean it!”

“It’s okay!” He answered whilst stepping further into the room. But the way he lightly waved her

off wasn’t what stunned me. What stunned me

was the smile on his face.

The smile on his face was genuine. Like

G.E.N.U.I.N.E. And he looked like someone who was having some sort of fun.
