209 Heterochyma gibberish…

Caelum.a

For a very long moment, I stood there in shock, waiting to see if Beta Malakai- ex Beta Malakai- would say something more or give me an

explanation as to what his words meant; But as more seconds passed, each one weaving into the next… and still, there was nothing, I knew then that he wasn’t willing to speak.

He was just there, shaking like a leaf in the wind, his hands trembling as he stared at his filthy feet.

I pushed myself away from the wall I’d been leaning against for the past five minutes or so, and when I realised that he would probably never answer my question, I asked;

“Cat got your tongue, Kai?”

And at the use of his nickname, the one only my

father used to call him before his demise, he

raised his head to meet my gaze, a flicker of something wild fleeting past his eyes before he slowly opened his mouth.

“I don’t know.”

“You don’t know or you don’t want to say?” I asked coldly, my voice sounding as cold as the ice cubes in the bucket behind me.

His eyes traveled from my face to the pair of silver scissors in my hands; But still… he didn’t say a word. He looked away.

“Have you been suppressing her wolf?” I continued, despite his silence. Although that had only been a wild guess and a means to get him to talk at least, I was surprised when his breath hitched. His shoulders hunched forward and he shook again.

He has.

I frowned. “Why?”

At my voice, he looked up again, stared at me for a moment too long then whispered; “I don’t

know.”

His generic responses were grating on my nerves. It made me so mad, I wanted to pull my hair out of my scalp.

Out of respect for him and for the relationship he shared with my father, I had been holding off from torturing him; But at this point, I didn’t know if I could anymore.

I picked up the scissors for real this time and walked over to crouch in front of him, and as I did so, his eyes widened in horror as if noticing the anger in mine. And the tinge of crazy plus

whatever was in between.

I spat; “I won’t ask again, Kai. Why?”

“B-because she’s not my child!” He cried, his

limbs shaking violently. “She’s a curse… an abomination. And I hate her.”

“So you were suppressing her wolf simply because you hate her?” I hissed, feeling my anger rising. “You made her the laughing stock of the pack. Made her a runt who was mistreated and bullied by her peers simply because you hate her?”

“Yes.”

“Why do I feel like there’s something you aren’t telling me, Kai? How is she Chalice’s twin but not your daughter? Did you do some voodoo shit or something?” I seethed and when he wouldn’t respond, I inched closer to him, pressing my knife into his thigh.

A second passed… then two.

And then I lost my patience. I stabbed straight into his thigh.

His loud cry filled the air as he threw his head back, wailing so loud, it made the doors to his cell creak in protest. His cries sounded like music to my ears, and if he didn’t act fast, then I was sure to make him sing a full melody soon.

“Why did you suppress her wolf?” I tried again, hating the way the words tasted like vomit in my mouth and felt like noise to my ears. I shuddered at the thought of whatever pain she must’ve been put through all in the name of suppressing her wolf.

And that thought… that thought alone made me want to kill myself and him.

When I pulled out the silver knife from his thigh and pushed it into his ribs, he trembled, crying and coughing as the silver blade sizzled against his skin, poisoning him as well as hurting him.

He cried; “B-because she’s a godforsaken hybrid!”

And at that, I froze.

My hand holding the knife paused around it and my eyes raised slowly to meet his. “She’s what?”

He sneezed, shaking violently. For a moment, he looked like he wouldn’t speak but one look at my face had him rethinking his decision. He sputtered; “A hybrid. She’s part Lycan and part

wolf.”

It took me a moment for the weight of his words to finally settle, and even when it did, I still couldn’t fully understand what the hell he was talking about. I couldn’t wrap my head around how any of that was even possible.

“But you are a werewolf and your wife is a werewolf too.” I shot back in confusion.

“Yes, true!” He wheezed painfully- almost feverishly. “And that’s why I hate her. She’s a hybrid… a product of my wife’s infidelity.”

“But she’s Chalice’s twin!” I hissed, not understanding how any of that made any sense.

He dropped his gaze slowly and then shook his head, my body pulsing as he continued. “Yes, they are twins,” he answered, his voice trembling, “… but they are a rare result of heteropaternal superfecundation.”

Heterochyma- what the fuck?

That sounded like gibberish. Absolute gibberish.

‘Or maybe you’re just not smart enough to understand.’ My wolf sneered in my mind, causing my already soaring anger to spike even higher.

My eyes flashed with rage as I rose slowly, watching the way his blood silently poured out of the open cuts on his body.

-And I intend to bleed him out if he doesn’t

explain what the fuck he was trying to say to me like I was a child with a half fried brain.

I hissed. “I don’t understand what that is.”

“It means that about t-twenty four years ago, my

wife was intimate with me and another man at

around the same time… and surprisingly, she was

able to conceive with both of our children.” He

rasped, causing my frown to deepen.

I have never ever heard of something like that happening.

By the gods, this was a first.

I took a step back to process the things I’d just heard him say and in a voice so small, I could barely even hear myself, I asked;

“And the man… the other man… Leilani’s father, is

a Lycan?”

He nodded, but I didn’t miss the flash of

annoyance in his eyes before he tried to hide it. Or the way his hands balled into tight fists as he gritted out; “Yes. He was not just a Lycan Alpha, he was a dark knight.”

I froze. 2
