229 Eww again.
Leilani.
“I lied.”
“I lied.”
The words echoed in my mind like the sound of music from a broken tape, and the more I heard it, the more frustrated I grew. And the more heartbroken I felt.
Goddess, I had believed him.
I had believed everything he said to me.
As soon as I heard those words, my heart dropped. Anger and frustration coiled tight within me. However, just as I tried to walk away from him, he continued to speak with a detached tone, his voice ringing in the quiet air between us as he rasped;
“I grew up with Ragnar. He took care of me, and to everyone who knew us, he was my father. Lani, I know you may think that I lied to you but I didn’t because even I myself love to acknowledge him as my father too. Still, it doesn’t change the fact that he isn’t my biological father.”
Blah blah blah blah.
Those were the things I heard as I listened to him speak while I hated myself for still granting him the gift of my attention.
“My father is Darius the mad, the abusive elder brother of Ragnar, your father. Well since my father died two years after the death of his mate, my mother, your dad became the alpha and my adoptive father.”
I froze. I had no idea who those people were but since they were my supposed family, I
listened.
“So we’re cousins, not siblings?” I asked tentatively and to my utmost bewilderment, he smiled.
“I’d like to not think of you as family.”
“So if you don’t want to think about me as one of your family members, then what do you like to think of me as?” I snapped. My curiosity was peaking… skyrocketing. And he wasn’t making matters any easier for me as he kept going around in circles.
“I see you as a beautiful young woman.” He said and I frowned when I heard tha

“So you mean to tell me that you’ve been stalking me? That you’ve been trying to reach out to me simply because you think I am beautiful?” I asked, snorting at the craziness
of it all.
And then…
Then Darius turned away from me and waved his hand. I gasped in horror when my locked door creaked open when he did that and I hadn’t even unlocked it yet!
That means he could’ve easily gone into my house if he wanted to from the start!
With wide eyes, I watched him walk into the house and I had no option but to follow him, jumping in fright when the door slammed shut as soon as I walked in.
“We’re alike, Leilani.” He said after a moment of awkward silence. “I’ve never met anyone like myself until I met you.”
“You are a dark knight.” I pointed out. “There are six more people like you.”
Darius seemed taken aback as soon as I said that but he quickly snapped himself out of his self-induced shock in an instant. He shrugged; “None of the other dark knights are like me or you. We’re different.”
“In what sense?”
“In the sense that currently, we’re the only shifters in the entire world who shift to things- Lycans, werewolves, beasts- whatever it is, with completely silver furs.” He said and as soon as those words slipped out of his lips, my heart plummeted into somewhere so deep in my guts, I suddenly felt the urge to visit the restroom.
I gulped. “How do you know that?”
“Because I’ve been watching… and because I love to think that I do not have any competition. Mind you, you’re my only competition presently.”

His eyes once again traveled from my head to my toes where they stopped for a second too long before he lifted them to meet my gaze. He continued; “After Ragnar died ten years ago, which is another story I’d tell you another day, I was made to train. Our people knew that there was no better leader than me-the weirdly strong silver furred lycan- to take up his throne. And no one refuted that fact.”
“And?” I drawled slowly, “is anyone refuting it now?”
“Maybe…” he tsked at me and then stopped suddenly to brush his fingers over my chin.
My breath hitched again when his eyes landed on mine and it wasn’t until this moment

that I realized I didn’t find his presence so uncomfortable anymore. Goddess, even that strange chill was gone!
My frown deepened. “Maybe?”
“Yes, maybe.” He continued. “After everyone found out about you- Ragnar’s
illegitimate daughter who may have silver furs just like me, they began to question my ability to rule over them. They began to wonder if I had what it took to lead them…” he trailed off, making my heart drop.
“…and when they found out that you were both. That you were an abomination. A rare blend of lycanthropy and whatever stupid term is used to describe werewolves, the court became divided.”
My breath caught. “What do you mean?”
“What I mean is that while some people do not want you, some still do. They heard about the things Malakai did to you and because we all have a major problem with him, he’s our enemy by the way, they see you as a tool to get back at him.”
“But I don’t want to be a tool!” I cried out quickly, but stopped when he planted his index finger on my lips.
“Shh…” he whispered “…don’t worry, I do not want to do that to you.”
“Then what do you want to do to me?”
“I want us to work together. I want to help you destroy every one of your enemies. I would help you destroy Chalice and the triplets. Hell, I can even help you get your beast or wolf, then find a cure for your friend. Frostclaw. And don’t forget, I can ruin Keisha’s life as well as I already know that she doesn’t have good intentions for you.” He drawled, his chill voice sending jolts down my spine.
“So what do I do for you in return?” I asked smartly, already knowing that he wasn’t going to do all of that free of charge.
Heck, he doesn’t even seem like one of those people who could simply do it for the plot.
He wanted something. That I knew.
And I wasn’t wrong, because then he flashed me a grin that immediately set me off and said; “Nothing much. You just have to marry me.”
I froze.
“I what?”

“You have to marry me.” He said again, and I immediately knew that he wasn’t kidding.
He meant it!
