Zevran.
I do not know if it was my imagination playing tricks on me but I could literally see Leilani’s eyes glowing slightly with a strange bright light.
Or was it because I was standing too close to her?
Was it because I found her so breathtakingly attractive that I had begun to hallucinate?
Or was it her scent; addictive yet pure that permeated my senses, almost making it impossible for me to breathe properly.
Shaking these thoughts out of my head, I dropped my head and cocked my eyebrows in suspicion. It was over three minutes now since Chalice ‘fainted’ but still, she hasn’t opened her eyes yet.
Heavens, she hadn’t even moved yet!

From here, I could hear the way she breathed- slowly and faintly, but still, I feared that she was faking that as well, seeing as she has fainted more times than I can count in her short life.
As if thinking the same thoughts as I was, Kael leaned close, his shoulders pressing against mine as he asked; “Is she faking it this time?”
“I don’t know.” I answered quickly, “…you never know with this one.”
“But she hasn’t moved an inch in the past two minutes or so…” he continued, sounding more amused than worried.
My smile grew at his tone and I shrugged. “Maybe she’s getting better at it.” I commented.
But soon the crowd began to grow more uncomfortable with each passing second. Murmurs rippled from amongst those present. When Chalice still wouldn’t budge despite the chaos- and it was almost five minutes now, I

dropped my voice and hissed; “She’s blacked out.”
“But why?” That was Caelum, the beast who seemed to be having so much fun from watching her suffer this much. He flashed me a grin when he saw me watching him then shrugged before discreetly mouthing something to me.
I didn’t grasp it so I frowned.
“She was tryna pin me with a guard’s baby!” He mouthed again and this time, I couldn’t help the smile blooming across my face.
It was crazy that his main angst towards her was the fact that she’d lied about her baby’s paternity.
I hissed. “She’s not waking up!”
“It’s the shock!” Mariam, a maid, cried. “Let us
resuscitate her!”
My eyes immediately shot to the man who was still trembling like a leaf beside Leilani. Louis. And now, I couldn’t help but notice that ever since the

moment Leilani forced that confession out of his mouth, he hasn’t moved. He hasn’t even spoken a word yet. He was just there: as rigid as a statue while staring straight into space.
I turned to him and gritted out; “Pick her up!”
He froze, turned to me with wide eyes but still didn’t move.
“I said, pick her up!” I yelled, and then briefly turning to the crowd of onlookers, I added; “Someone call the healer!”
I had already finished saying that when I realized that he still hasn’t done as I had asked. And
seeing him watch me with unblinking eyes, my anger flared.
“Are you DEAF?!”
My Alpha voice had slipped out, but for some
reason, he still didn’t move. He seemed… lost. Out
cold. He felt like a statue.

My eyes darted to Leilani then and when I noticed the confusion creasing her eyebrows, plus the way she now seemed to stare quietly at her outstretched hands, I knew then and there that this had something to do with her.
Maybe her glowing eyes hadn’t been a
hallucination after all.
But this was not the time to think about that.
So I picked Chalice up myself and made to walk out of the hall when Caelum suddenly stopped me by planting his hand on my shoulder.
I turned to glare at him with a frown that soon disappeared when he drawled; “She should be
treated here.”
I frowned. “Why?”
“Because she’s still being interrogated and I will not let her faint her way out of this one.”
I gulped. Beside me Leilani still stood quietly with

eyes drawn on a fat looking man who tried to hide himself by blending with the crowd.
But who was he kidding?
Who was he trying to deceive with that large stomach of his and those beady green eyes that made my blood curdle in a way that I couldn’t quite place?
Merely looking at him, I already knew that he was up to no good. And maybe it was just pure instinct or maybe it was something else but I found myself shielding Leilani with my body despite having Chalice in my arms.
“Caelum, you know that I of all people would
never allow her to walk out unscathed after
everything she’s done. But she doesn’t seem—”
“She seems good enough to me. She can be
resuscitated here!”
Without another word, I dropped her into one of

the plastic Chal anu took a step back just as the
paramedics rushed into the room.
Surprisingly, as soon as they touched her, her eyes flew open and she began to cough hysterically.
Caelum shrugged; “You see, I told you! It’s not something that big!” Then he flashed me a smile
and crouched in front of Chalice.
I saw her gulp when his fingers trailed over her
chin. I saw the fear that fleeted across her face
without filter as her eyes darted from his face to mine and then to Kael. When they landed on Leilani, her expression became cold.
She spat; “What is she still doing here?”
“I am here to juggle your memories a lil bit!” Leilani sassed back and then plopped into a chair, her posture a depiction of sexy arrogance as she drawled softly;

Chalice frowned. “I don’t understand you.”
“Why is your nickname Candy?” She asked, hitting the nail straight into the head.
At her question, Chalice turned pale. She began to cough while the pedophile-looking fatso began to slip out of the crowd and towards the door. However, he’d just arrived there when Leilani suddenly waved her hands over her head and to our utmost surprise, the door slammed shut.
I gasped. My brothers did too and even Leilani herself was stunned.
Her mouth hung open in shock for a very short moment before she schooled her features back into one of cold indifference and hissed; “The
party is just getting started, why are you trying to leave, Clement?”
