The throne room was full, overflowing with people who had all come with the same aim:

To see the Alpha who had returned from the dead.

The people in the halls chanted my father’s name like a war cry, singing his praises with tears in their eyes while I, on the other hand, sat at the furthest corner of the hall, watching all of this happen with tears in my eyes.

My heart felt full, overflowing with joy and with my mates pressed against me, acting as some sort of human shield, I felt safe. I smiled.

"Congratulations..." Zevran whispered, his voice soft.

At the sound, I turned to beam a smile at him, and when I noticed the way he was bent slightly, as a result of his injury, I frowned.

"Thank you, but don’t you think we should head out now? You’re unwell and I think you deserve some rest now..." I said, my voice trailing off.

However, he soon cut me off by abruptly waving his hands in front of my face. He turned to me, a flicker of mischief entering his eyes as he muttered; "Leave? I wouldn’t dare."

My eyebrows shot up.

"I recently noticed that your father can now tolerate us and you expect me to leave when he’s being celebrated?"

I chuckled. "You’re determined to remain on his good side."

Deep down, I had half expected him to refute. I had half expected that he would disagree with me. But to my utmost surprise, he didn’t. Instead, he nodded and pointed briefly to where father sat on his throne and smiled. His voice dropped a few notches when he spoke next, and even with that, he still leaned close... so close that his warm breath tickled my face as he drawled;

"He is a good man and a powerful man." He said, "Do you realize how powerful Darius was?"

I frowned. "Yes, I know how powerful Darius was..."

"Yet, he killed him with his index finger. His index finger, Leilani. I don’t think you understand how cool that is."

But I did. I understood it perfectly well.

For the first one hour after Darius dropped dead, I had simply held onto my father, one because he had protected me and secondly, because I knew then and there how far he could go to protect me.

I had also spent a majority of that time wondering how possible it was to kill someone by just pointing at them; But just as I opened my mouth, about to respond to Zevran, a different voice beat me to it:

It drawled; "I am glad that the first thought you had after witnessing that is thinking I am cool."

I froze. And so did Zevran.

The other brothers who had simply stood by, silently listening to our exchange suddenly straightened up and I couldn’t help but chuckle under my breath when they lowered their heads as if afraid of looking into my father’s eyes.

Father, who noticed this, didn’t say a word about it. Instead, he shrugged, beamed a smile at them and continued; "I hope you will still think that way after I kill you..."

Zevran stilled. His body went rock hard.

"...for hurting my daughter... that is if you ever hurt her."
