Faux Vows, True Desires novel Chapter 548

Even if he stepped down as the head of Ikella Group, he wouldn’t starve. He could just become a landlord, collecting rent without lifting a finger.

“Ever since Stefan took over Ascend Global, he’s been all about investing in or acquiring other companies. But even the ventures he started early on are pretty impressive considering we were just teenagers back then,” Owen said with a sigh. “My grandpa used to say I couldn’t hold a candle to Stefan. I fought that idea so hard, but looking back, he was right.”

When they were teenagers, while Stefan was busy making savvy investments, Owen was more focused on trying to win Ruby’s heart. His grandpa often warned him that Ruby would be his downfall, which led to more than a few arguments between them.

Cecilia turned to him with a smile. “It’s rare to hear you admit you’re not quite like Mr. Coleman. That’s growth right there.”

“Still, you’re quite accomplished,” she continued. “In Pinehurst, you and Mr. Coleman are the youngest CEOs, the cream of the crop. You both were once so far out of reach that just dreaming about you two made my neck sore from looking up so high.” Who would’ve thought she and Lucy would end up with the city’s finest young men? It was like a real-life fairy tale.

Lucy wasn’t a Cinderella; she was more like a princess living undercover among common folks. Cecilia felt like the true Cinderella in this story.

Owen paused in his task of drying her hair, leaning in to whisper affectionately in her ear, “From now on, I'll stoop down to you, so you won’t have to look up until your neck aches.” He sealed the promise with a kiss on her cheek. Cecilia turned, wrapped her arms around his neck, and kissed him full on the lips.

Afterward, she murmured softly, “Owen, I find myself loving you more each day. I hope we can always be this close, trusting and understanding each other.”

Owen vowed, “We will, my love. We’ll grow old together, surrounded by our children and grandchildren.” He resumed drying her hair, then expertly tied it up. Watching his deft movements, Cecilia knew he must have tied Ruby's hair many times to become this proficient, but she didn’t feel jealous.

If anything, she was grateful to Ruby for training Owen to be so considerate and attentive to women. In the end, it was she, Cecilia, who reaped the rewards. Ruby had planted the tree, and Cecilia was enjoying its shade. Why get jealous of Ruby? She had won, after all.

Downstairs, the dining room was set with a lavish lunch spread. As Cecilia took her seat at the table, she noticed it was filled with all her favorite dishes, even though she wasn’t particularly picky about food. Although they hadn’t shared many meals together—often opting for takeout—Owen had clearly put effort into learning her preferences.

“Last night, I thought I’d get up early and make you a loving breakfast, my first meal for you as your wife. But I overslept. I’ll do it another day, I promise. I’m quite the domestic goddess, you know,” Cecilia boasted with a playful grin.

Owen chuckled, “I remember when I first asked you to cook for me, you said your skills were nothing to write home about.”

“Well, it won’t kill you unless you find it absolutely terrible. Do you think my cooking is bad?” she teased.

Owen, eager to please, replied quickly, “Not at all, it’s delicious!” If she ever decided to cook, he’d just step in and take over, letting her relax and watch.
