Chapter 113
Jared, his wolf a furious whirlwind, charged forward, grabbing the Pack Elder by the scruff of his neck and yanking him close. His teeth bared in a snarl.
Did Isabella instruct you to do this?!” His wolf’s growl vibrated through his words.
Alexander frowned, confusion evident in his eyes.
As a swift–runner, recently returned from a competition in the Whispering Woods, he’d been kept in the dark about my departure from the den to avoid distracting him.
Thus, Alexander snapped, “What did Isabella do to provoke Emily? She knows it’s Emily’s moon–cycle celebration; she’s deliberately causing trouble, right?”
His voice was full of displeasure towards me and protectiveness towards Emily; his wolf mirroring his anger.
Caleb frowned, witnessing their immediate accusations.
“Let’s ascertain the facts before condemning Isabella.”
His wolf tried to calm the rising tension.
Alexander’s eyes widened; he looked at Caleb incredulously.
“Caleb, what ails you? Why are you defending that whelp?!”
A pang of sadness struck Caleb; his wolf whimpered sympathetically. He’d merely spoken of fairness, urging everyone to clarify the situation before blaming me.
Yet, to others, it seemed like he was taking my side.
And Alexander’s sharp words–calling me “that whelp,” I was their sister! Even a neutral wolf would feel the sting of such words. How much more hurtful was it for me, the one directly involved?
It was no wonder I had been so resolute in leaving the Miller pack.
Caleb opened his mouth, hesitating. He saw the hatred in Alexander’s piercing gaze and sighed, knowing that any explanation would be futile.
Taking a deep breath, his wolf calming his racing heart, he stepped forward and asked in a low voice, “When did you begin requiring prior notice for gatherings?”
The Pack Elder, sensing Caleb’s controlled authority, replied respectfully, “After a Howlnet post last moon, we became immensely popular. With the pack flooding in, we had no choice but to implement a notification system.” Upon hearing this, Caleb slowly turned around. His gaze swept over his two brothers‘ faces, filled with sorrow. Alexander and Jared knew they’d wronged me but showed no remorse; their wolves remained unrepentant. This pained Caleb deeply.
Alexander wore an arrogant expression, completely devoid of guilt. He raised his chin, speaking as if it were obvious.“It’s her fault! If she hadn’t constantly clashed with Emily, we wouldn’t have misunderstood her!” His

wolf snarled with self–righteousness.
Jared clenched his fists, his eyes blazing, his wolf mirroring his anger. He gritted his teeth.“Isabella’s arrogant demeanor earlier led me to believe she’d conspired with the Elder to make things difficult for Emily.”
Alexander, arms crossed, sneered.

“On Emily’s moon–cycle celebration, Isabella caused trouble; it’s a recurring pattern. They share the same moon–cycle; what’s wrong with celebrating together? Emily’s brother died protecting her; Emily should receive gifts and share the first bite of the moon–cake; isn’t that the custom?”
Caleb was struck by a sudden realization. His eyes widened; his face paled; his wolf howled in remorse. He mumbled, “Yes… it’s also Isabella’s moon–cycle. I… I completely forgot.”
