Chapter 117
My wolf stirred restlessly within me as I sensed Caleb’s internal struggle.
He was selecting a birth gift, and my scent–or rather, the lingering trace of my scent–guided his hand.
He remembered the exquisitely crafted satchel I’d admired at the Silvermoon Pack’s artisan market, a satchel that required a matching purchase according to the ancient Pack traditions.
He’d finally found a reason–a way to acquire it.
He’d found Emily, my wolf sister, and reasoned to his pack, “Isabella, you’re understanding; Emily’s brother saved your life; we should take care of her. Let Emily have her way this time, and next time, I’ll definitely get you something even better.”
But next time” remained elusive.
My wolf snarled, a low rumble in my chest.
Caleb’s gaze fell upon Emily, surrounded by Jared and Alexander.
Once, I was the pup they cherished. The memories sent a wave of bitter loneliness through me.
His communicator vibrated.
It was a message from the artisan,
‘Greetings, Alpha Miller. The satchel you commissioned has arrived.”
‘I have a matter to attend to; I’ll be gone briefly,” Caleb announced, rising swiftly and heading for the pack council
hall exit.
Emily’s smile faltered; she’d overheard. Caleb was acquiring a gift for me!
Alexander, noticing her change, inquired, “Emily, what troubles you? You seem unwell…”
She quickly masked her feelings with a frown, feigning concern.
‘Caleb hasn’t rested well; I worry for him venturing alone.”
Jared scoffed, his displeasure evident.
‘He favors Isabella; why concern yourself? Caleb doesn’t appreciate your kindness!”
Emily lowered her gaze, gently touching Jared’s arm, affecting affection.
“Because you are my most cherished brothers! I care for you. Jared, don’t hold resentment towards Caleb. Isabella
is your blood sister; family; it’s only natural he favors her.”
“I have no sister like Isabella!” Jared rose abruptly, his chair scraping harshly.
He suppressed his fury.
“Caleb doesn’t deserve your kindness! You prepared a feast for him; and yet he doesn’t appreciate you;

still defend her!”
“Jared!” Emily’s voice held a pleading note.
She turned to Alexander, her eyes wide with supplication.
“Alexander, let us find Caleb.”
Alexander frowned, his displeasure evident.
He’d rushed back from his competition to celebrate Emily’s birth; first, I caused disturbance; now, Caleb! But seeing Emily’s anguish, his displeasure softened.
‘Very well,” he sighed.
“Let’s go.”
They left the hall, searching for Caleb. He received the exquisite satchel, his fingers tracing the embossed logo, a faint smile playing on his lips.
‘She would adore this, he thought.
He deliberately avoided Emily’s quarters, choosing a longer path.
Unbeknownst to him, I was within those very chambers. My wolf howled silently, a mixture of hope and despair.
