Jared raised an eyebrow, a chilling smile playing on his lips.
You were rushing to catch your swift–runner that day and missed the aftermath. She flung the gifts at us and fled to join that Grayson’s pack!” His wolf snarled with resentment.
He grumbled angrily.
“If she wishes to depart, let her! Who requires her as a sister? We have Emily, and that suffices!” His wolf’s possessive nature was evident.
Caleb frowned, guilt and pain etched on his features. His wolf whimpered softly. “Isabella departed because we wounded her.”
“Caleb, enough!” Alexander stood, slamming his hands on the table. His eyes were dark; his voice, laced with anger, boomed.
“Cease defending Isabella! We treated her exceptionally well; how did we wound her? If Emily’s presence distressed her, then let her remain absent!” His wolf roared its anger.
“Alexander, you…” Caleb’s words were cut short as he suddenly paled, his body swaying. Emily quickly stepped forward, catching Caleb before he fell.
Worry etched on her face, her voice trembling.
“Caleb!”
Her wolf panicked.
Jared and Alexander rushed to help, momentarily forgetting their argument.
Jared’s voice held unusual urgency.
“Caleb, are you well?” His wolf sensed something was wrong.
Caleb closed his eyes, waving weakly.
This simple action seemed to exhaust him; sweat beaded on his forehead. His wolf was in distress.
Alexander’s anger dissipated instantly, replaced by deep concern. He asked softly, “Caleb, what ails you?”
Emily, her eyes red–rimmed, choked out,
“After Isabella departed, Caleb ceased taking his restorative herbs and receiving his muscle–relaxing treatments; his sleeplessness returned with a vengeance. He didn’t inform us, and by the time we noticed, it was already severe.”
Her words expressed concern for Caleb, subtly hinting at my alleged disregard for his well–being when I left the Miller pack. Her she–wolf subtly manipulated the situation.
Alexander clenched his fists;*She must have used this to manipulate Caleb! This explained why Caleb was

defending her! His wolf seethed with suspicion.

Caleb grasped Alexander’s hand, wanting to defend me, but dizziness silenced him. How could Emily utter such misleading words, causing Jared and Alexander to misunderstand me?
His wolf protested his inability to speak.
But he was in pain, unable to voice it.
“Caleb, are you alright? Let us return to the den; you require rest,” Emily asked, feigning concern. Her wolf reveled in its victory.
She didn’t want to return to the den, but she had to act the part.
Jared frowned disapprovingly.
“Emily, it’s your moon–cycle celebration; we haven’t commenced the festivities. If Caleb is unwell, I’ll have a servant escort him home.”
Jared possessed a conscience, albeit a weak one. His wolf was conflicted.
Caleb couldn’t help but recall instances when he’d shown the slightest discomfort, and I would rush to his aid, preparing restorative brews and providing soothing treatments. His wolf ached for that familiar comfort.
He took a deep breath, waving his hand.
“I am fine; it’s Emily’s moon–cycle celebration; I do not wish to mar her joy.”
Jared breathed a sigh of relief.
“Yes, it’s Emily’s moon–cycle celebration. Caleb, inform us if

feel unwell.”
Caleb, fearing another dizzy spell, simply nodded. He didn’t want to return to the den; he had a moon–cycle gift
for me.
His wolf yearned for Isabella.
