Chapter 158
Suddenly, a deep, enraged growl cut through the air.
“Are you bullying Emily because of this?!”
Alexander, his wolf’s scent a potent mix of fury and possessiveness, stormed over, his eyes blazing. The crowd parted, sensing the shift in the pack’s energy.
My wolf felt a prickle of unease–this was more than just a territorial dispute.
The sales she–wolf, terrified, slipped away to alert the Pack Council.
Alexander stood protectively beside Emily. Her eyes welled, and she clutched his arm, her whimpers barely audible.
Her wolf’s scent was weak and vulnerable.
“Alexander…”
His expression softened; concern replaced his anger. He patted her shoulder gently, his touch reassuring.
“Don’t be afraid; I will protect you; no one can bully you!” Then he spun on me, his eyes like chips of ice. His wolf’s threat was palpable.
“Isabella, you’re still so jealous! You can’t have it; you destroy it! Your heart is so dark!”
I scoffed, lifting my chin, meeting his furious gaze. My wolf snarled back, her claws extended just slightly.“What can’t I have? Your affection?” I sneered, my eyes flicking to Emily’s pitiful expression.
My wolf felt a surge of irritation.
“As for being jealous of her going to the moonstone fashion show–how do you know I can’t go?”
Linda stepped forward, hands on her hips, her voice sharp and disdainful. Her wolf’s scent carried an undercurrent of triumph.
“When have you ever gone? You always bully Emily out of jealousy!”
I opened my mouth to retort, but a weak, hoarse voice interrupted, cutting through the tension.
‘No…”
The voice, though frail, commanded attention. Caleb, pale and weak, slowly approached, his large overcoat concealing his hospital gown. His wolf’s scent was faint, his presence diminished by his illness. He could barely speak, his voice barely a whisper. He glanced at me, his eyes red–rimmed with pain, his meaning clear – my absence at the fashion show was not due to my lack of skill. My wolf felt a pang of guilt.
Meeting my cold gaze, he understood it was too late.
His wolf’s acceptance was a heavy weight.
“Caleb, why are you here?” Alexander asked, his displeasure softened by Caleb’s obvious weakness. His wolf seemed less enraged, more
concerned.
Caleb held out his hand to Alexander, writing on his palm. Alexander read his message – his support was with me. He glared at me,
then at Caleb.
His wolf was clearly torn between his loyalty to his mate and his resentment.

“Caleb, you’re still sick. You’re worried about that ungrateful brat. That brat doesn’t care if you live or die!”
His wolf’s frustrated growl resonated through the space. He regretted not answering Emily’s call at the healing den sooner.
His wolf was fiercely protective of Emily.
But how could he bear to keep Emily waiting even a moment longer?
