Chapter 17
Chapter 17
“I just don’t like Jared; I wanted to annoy him. It wasn’t entirely for you.”
My wolf grumbled at the memory of Jared’s smug face, a low growl vibrating in my chest.
I knew about Grayson’s feud with my brothers‘ pack, but I appreciated his actions.
“Regardless, I’m still very grateful to you. I’ll pay you back for the medical and meal expenses.”
Grayson fiddled with his comm–stone, catching the hint in my words that I wanted to draw a line. He clicked his tongue, his brows slightly raised, a flicker of displeasure flashing in his deep, amber gaze. His handsome face, framed by dark, unruly hair, wore a casual, cocky air, radiating an untamed alpha aura.
His wolf’s scent – sharp, musky – filled the air, asserting his dominance.
“I just made a big show of recruiting you as my sister.
Now that Jared is gone, and you’re cutting ties; this makes me embarrassed.”
His wolf’s frustration was palpable, a low hum of unease resonating from him.
I paused, understanding his point.
He meant for me to be bonded to him, to join his pack.
I didn’t mind my brothers knowing I was staying with their enemy; it just felt weird to be living in the Hayes pack territory, and I didn’t
anymore. or anyone’s blood–bonded mate want to be anyone’s sister
–
The thought sent a shiver down my spine, even though I knew deep down that the possibility of a bond with Grayson was dangerously
attractive.
I looked up at him, momentarily stunned.
This time, I definitely wasn’t mistaken; the tips of his ears were slightly red, a telltale sign of heightened arousal, even through his carefully controlled alpha demeanor.
My wolf throbbed with a sudden, confusing rush of heat.
My thoughts drifted far away, and a long–buried memory began to resurface–through the pack borders, I could faintly hear a little pup crying, “I want a sister, too…” The image of my own puphood surfaced, filled with loneliness and longing for a pack–mate.
Grayson’s lazy voice broke my thoughts.
“My reputation is valuable. You stay at my place as interest; the medical and meal expenses you owe me can be paid back later.” His words, though seemingly casual, carried the weight of an alpha’s command.
His wolf was in control, its assertive energy unmistakable.
Grayson had never coddled anyone; his arrogance surpassed even that of my brothers. My wolf bristled, but a strange, thrilling pull counteracted the irritation.
Before I could respond, he grabbed his wolfskin cloak, draping it over me.“Put it on.
