Chapter 174
The Howlnet exploded; she–wolves and he–wolves questioned Emily’s “rising star” status, suspecting her past designs were also stolen. My wolf reveled in the shift in the pack’s opinion.
Suddenly, a howl cut through the air, a desperate call for help. Alexander’s hired internet trolls couldn’t control the situation; they were calling
him.
Alexander’s fur bristled as he answered; then he hung up, rushing to his workstation, typing furiously. News of Emily’s plagiarism flooded the screen; each article was a sharp claw, tearing at his soul.
His wolf snarled, enraged and humiliated.
Jared also saw this.
Conflicting emotions warred within him. On one paw, he was glad for me–my name finally cleared.
On the other, it proved I didn’t need his help.
His wolf felt a pang of jealousy mixed with relief.
Alexander stared at the screen, his face terrifyingly dark, his eyes burning with rage like a cornered beast.
His wolf was ready to unleash its fury.
Jared stepped forward, trying to calm him.
“Alexander…”
“How dare Luna Isabella!” Alexander flung off Jared’s paw, his voice raw with anger.“Emily is his fated mate’s sister! How could she be so heartless?!” His wolf growled, its loyalty to Emily blinding its judgment.
*Alexander! You were also heartless towards Luna Isabella!” Jared yelled, his wolf snapping back.
“It’s different!” Alexander snarled.
“Emily’s brother saved her life; she owes Emily!” His wolf clung fiercely to this justification.
Jared looked at Alexander’s stubborn face, feeling a suffocating rage in his chest. He raised his paw, ready to strike, but swallowed the words. Who was he to judge Alexander? He himself had once stubbornly believed I was wrong, immature, that I should sacrifice for Emily! He had been a silent observer, unaware of the pain I suffered to leave the Miller pack.
His wolf mourned the past. His eyes were red; his throat was choked.
“Alexander…”
Suddenly, Alexander’s howl–comm rang; it was an unknown number. He answered; Emily’s trembling voice filled the comm. “Alexander… it’s Emily; I’m scared…” her voice trembled.“It’s cold here; there are bugs everywhere; I want to
Her scent, laced with fear, reached Alexander.
Alexander’s eyes turned bloodshot.“Emily, don’t be afraid; I’ll get you home!”
His wolf’s protective instinct surged.
“I…” The comm went dead. He howled back but received no answer.
His eyes were red, his fur bristling; he grabbed his coat and keys, rushing out.
go home…”
Jared remembered his plan to kidnap me; he grabbed Alexander’s arm.“Alexander, calm down! We can find another way…”
“Shut up!” Alexander shook him off fiercely, his eyes blazing.“If you want to help, help me kidnap that she–wolf; otherwise, stay out of it!”
His wolf was consumed by a desperate need to rescue Emily.
Alexander rushed out; Jared was about to follow when his howl–comm rang; it was from the healing den.
“Mr. Miller, your brother is awake.”
Jared watched Alexander go, then looked at his comm; he was torn. He took a deep breath, heading towards the pack transport, driving to the healing den.
