My insides felt like they’d been shattered; my wolf whimpered in pain.
In that moment, my survival instinct took over. I gripped the wheel, trying to stabilize the wreckage; I curled up, protecting my head. My wolf snarled, ready to fight.
The air filled with the acrid scent of gasoline and burning rubber, mixed with the stench of broken glass and twisted metal. The driver didn’t stop to check. He slammed the wheel and sped away, leaving me to the mercy of the predators.
Then, a group of hulking, grim–faced thugs jumped from door.

The thug sneered, “Thought you’d cry; I didn’t expect you to be so tough.”
I gritted my teeth, suppressing my terror. I sat up, looking at them coldly. My wolf bared its teeth, refusing to show weakness. One thug clicked his tongue, annoyed, and stepped toward me, raising his paw.“What’s that look? Like a wolf pup!” His paw was stopped.
“Focus.”
The leader looked at me coldly.“We’re here because you did something wrong; you against Luna Carter, and we’ll release you; otherwise…”
