Chapter 184
Caleb‘ Don’t be agitated: don’t lash out at Isabella. she’s hurt, that’s why she won’t forgive Alexander. My well fel a pang at gasil
Had my anger blinded me to the bigger picture?
“Slap! Caleb slammed his fist on the table, his finger pointing at Jared, his anger silencing him.
His woll radiated fury.
After a moment, he regained control. Hunt at Isabella? What wrong did she do that warrants my anger?
His wolf seemed to question Jared’s judgement.
Jared was stunned, realizing his error. He’d assumed I was in the wrong; that Alexander and Emily’s confinement was
But was I wrong?
No! Alexander was wrong; utterly wrong!
My wolf growled inwardly, confirming the truth of the situation.
No wonder I refused to forgive them!
Jared lowered his head.“I’m sorry, Caleb…”
You should apologize to Isabella!” Caleb struggled to rise, putting on his boots, ready to leave.
His wolf was consumed by a desperate need for atonement.
“Caleb, where are you going?” Jared tried to stop him.
I’ll apologize to Isabella! I’ll apologize on your behalf.” Caleb’s voice trembled.
His wolf ached with regret.
Jared hung his head.“Isabella won’t forgive us…”
Caleb stepped out into the harsh winter air, snowflakes swirling around him, his slight frame chilled to the bone.
His wolf shivered with the cold.
He raised his hand to initiate a Howlnet connection.
The servant responded, “Miss Miller is not at the longhouse.”
The connection severed.
He wore a thin wool coat, the collar open to the merciless wind. His face paled, his lips losing their color.
my faule
“Caleb, let’s return,” Jared urged, placing a thick fur cloak around him.“Isabella’s not here; she’s working at the Smith Pack’s territory; I saw he depart; you’ll fall ill standing here.”
Caleb ignored him, stubbornly staring at the locked gate as if willing it to reveal me. His wolf yearned for my presence.
He remembered the day I left the longhouse, burning with fever, while they only cared about Emily and pressured me to apologize; they even forced me to hand over my design sketches to Emily!
How desperate and cold I must have been when I was forced away!
Time passed, and Caleb felt his body grow colder, his mind clouded. He remembered how I used to soothe his restless nights–my warm, comforting touch easing his insomnia.
Now, he suffered alone, his wolf tormented by sleepless nights.
He understood that he was responsible for his own pain.
Finally, after a long wait, a sleek, black wolf–drawn carriage slowly entered the Smith longhouse. Seeing it, Caleb’s weakened body swayed. His wolf felt a surge of painful memories.
Emily possessed a similar carriage!
But that carriage was meant to be my graduation gift–a promise he’d made to me. When Emily had expressed envy, he’d given it to her inste: I had refused, and he’d dismissed my objection as immaturity.
But that was *my* gift!
