Chapter 209

Andrew and Emily arrived at the Smith territory. Knowing a simple summons wouldn’t work, Andrew pounded on the front door. His insistent knocking disturbed the pack’s guardian, who opened the door, his expression impassive.
His eyes were cold, assessing.
“What brings you here?” he asked formally.
“I’m her brother, Andrew! Get Isabella out!” Andrew demanded, his alpha asserting itself.
“Miss Miller doesn’t receive visitors; please leave,” the guardian stated, starting to close the door.
“Wait!” Emily quickly intervened, her voice breaking.“Please, Guardian! Let us see Isabella. If she forgives Alexander and drops her complaint, I’ll do anything!”
Her wolf was frantically working, desperation laced with calculation.
“Even… even kneel and apologize!”
Tears welled, her face a mask of feigned suffering. She began to kneel, the wind tugging at her dress, making her appear fragile. Her plan was set–the video would be used to turn public opinion against me.
As her knee neared the ground… a cold voice cut through the air, laced with mockery.
“Very well, if you truly kneel, I’ll consider letting you see Alexander.” The voice, though quiet, carried an icy authority.
Emily froze.
She hadn’t intended to actually kneel!
She looked up sharply, panic replacing her feigned grief as two pack enforcers dragged someone towards them.
It was the one she’d hired to film her! He’d been caught.
Her carefully planned display was ruined.
Andrew also looked up, his eyes landing on a slender figure emerging from the porch. Moonlight illuminated me, accentuating my features. My expression was cool, my gaze fixed on Emily as if she were a clumsy pup.
“Not kneeling anymore?” My tone was dripping sarcasm.“I truly believed Miss Carter would do anything for ‘family‘?”
Emily’s face drained of color, the tears gone, replaced by stark terror. Andrew’s demeanor shifted instantly.
“Isabella, what right do you have to make Emily kneel?!”
“It’s her choice to make a pitiful display for you; why are you upset? It’s for your brother–sister bond. I’m merely helping her cultivate a positive image; is that my fault?” I feigned innocence.“So, you prefer pretense? Fine, don’t kneel then.”
My wolf chuckled, satisfied with her manipulations.
