Chapter 208
My laughter was cold, sharp. “Mr. Miller, if a proper apology isn’t forthcoming, fine. I don’t need anyone’s forgiveness.” I ended the call. My wolf felt a thrill of victory.
The abrupt silence, the jarring disconnect, sent Andrew’s wolf into a frenzy. His chest heaved, rage threatening to consume him.
His wolf’s snarls echoed in his mind, a symphony of fury.“Isabella!” he ground out, his knuckles white with anger.
“She’s becoming utterly unreasonable!” His alpha authority, once absolute, felt crushed underfoot. He needed to teach her a lesson, personally.
Bursting out, consumed by his wolf’s rage, he saw Emily offering a warming drink, her approach practiced and calm.“Andrew, you look unwell. Did Isabella refuse to forgive Alexander, or refuse to sign the agreement?” Emily asked, feigning concern. Her wolf’s expression was serene, betraying a hidden smugness.
Seeing Emily’s gentle demeanor, Andrew’s anger receded slightly, replaced by a deeper resentment towards me. The contrast between Emily and me was stark. One was gentle, considerate; the other, sharp–tongued and rebellious.“She made a mistake! What’s wrong with Alexander disciplining her? Does he need “her” forgiveness?!” His wolf’s fury re–ignited, fueled by my perceived betrayal.
A subtle triumph flickered in Emily’s eyes, quickly masked by a softer expression. She approached, offering the drink.“Andrew, don’t be angry. Isabella is still upset; give her time; she’ll understand your intentions.”
“Understand my intentions?!” Andrew sneered, accepting the drink but not taking a sip. His wolf remained skeptical.“If she understood, she wouldn’t have done so much to anger me!”
Emily continued gently.
“Andrew, this is the gift Alexander gave Isabella. If I return it, she might remember his kindness and sign the agreement.”
Andrew looked at the gift–Alexander’s championship medal from his first hunt.
His wolf’s resentment flared. Emily’s consideration struck a chord.
“You’re so sensible.” He softened, patting her shoulder, relief washing over him.“Since she doesn’t value it, you keep it.”
Emily’s lips curved, a sly glint in her eyes.“Andrew, if this reminds Isabella of Alexander’s kindness, I can give it up. I don’t care about gifts; I want our pack to be harmonious.” His wolf was charmed, ignoring the fact the medal was rightfully mine.
“If only she were as obedient as you!”
Emily smiled, her wolf radiating satisfaction. “Andrew, you should talk to Isabella. No matter what, it’s for Alexander.”
Her submissive demeanor completely disarmed him.
Hearing her obedient words, Andrew’s anger finally subsided.
“For Alexander’s sake.” His wolf was pacified, temporarily blinded by Emily’s carefully crafted display of loyalty.
