Chapter 21
As I walked onto the Pack Council grounds, pups cast curious glances and whispered.
The air buzzed with their hushed gossip, their scent a mix of curiosity and disdain.
“That’s Isabella. Can you believe she’s so jealous of Emily and is trying to sabotage her hunting competition piece?”
“Such a stupid and malicious underachiever, how dare she show up at the Council grounds?”
“She has the nerve! I heard Emily’s brother died protecting her; and this is how she repays him!”
Their words stung, a chorus of disapproval echoing in my ears.
My wolf bristled, insulted by their lies.
Emily was a master at crafting a persona; she was incredibly popular, and everyone defended her.
In my past life, I’d devoted myself to my brothers‘ pack, balancing my studies with other duties, helping anyone who needed it, even regularly attending ceremonies and assisting Emily.
I was always busy, overshadowed by her.
I barely maintained my relationships with my brothers, let alone with these classmates.
Facing their gossip, I acted like I didn’t hear a thing and hurried to my elective training session.
In my previous life, I’d missed many sessions because I was always covering for Emily; but this time, I was determined to focus on the skills I was genuinely interested in.
After class, I gathered my scrolls, ready to head to the communal dining area.
Just then, Emily and her two toadies appeared at the classroom entrance.“Isabella,” she stepped forward, her tone sweet but laced with a
hint of
arrogance.
“I’m now an official member of Fourth Brother’s hunting team.
By the way, where’s your den key? I don’t mean to impose, but since you’re not living at home or coming to the den, it’s a hassle for me to get in and out.
Would you mind letting me keep it temporarily?”
I looked at her, my wolf instantly suspicious.
Her request seemed innocent enough, but the undercurrent of possessiveness was disturbing.
In my past life, she’d also asked for the key, but I still had to work in the den, organizing materials and equipment.
Without the key, I was often locked out.
I said it was inconvenient and asked if she could get me a spare key, Jared said I wasn’t an official member anymore, that it would be too troublesome to get a new key, and if I lost it, it would be a hassle; so he wouldn’t give it to me.
The memory of that injustice sparked anger in my wolf.
“You’re not even on the team anymore; what do you mean by keeping the key? Don’t you know how inconvenient it is for Emily without a key? She was locked out of the den today, waiting for five minutes until other team members arrived.

Do you have any idea how much time that wasted?”
Emily’s wolf scent sharpened, a clear sign of her manipulation.
