Talking to you is pointless, just hand over the key!”
I slammed my thick spellbooks onto the desk, the thud echoing through the cavern, silencing the pack.
My wolf snarled low in my chest;
the scent of Emily’s anxiety was sharp against the earthy musk of the den.
I looked at Emily, my eyes narrowed.
“Were you trying to show off your Alpha’s favor, or humiliate me?”
The playful smirk vanished from Emily’s face; she looked hurt and shrank back.
“Isabella, what do you mean by that?”
“You already possess the key and deliberately asked me for it, making it seem like I was withholding it.
Why do you always do this?
Once could be a mistake, but repeated instances… are you truly forgetful or intentionally trying to make me seem malicious?”
As I spoke, my gaze fell upon the key ring dangling from her satchel.
In the past, I was too busy appeasing my brothers‘ demands to maintain my position; the constant pressure left me vulnerable to misunderstandings.
This time, I wouldn’t let Emily get away with this.
If no one believed me, I would show them Emily’s true nature.
My wolf growled, a low rumble of righteous anger.
Emily’s eyes flickered; she instinctively glanced at her keychain.
Yesterday, when I’d given my apologies, I had given her a set of keys. She’d casually attached them to her bag, not realizing one was the lab key!
After all, I liked Jared so much that I cried when he gave my spot to her.
How could she think I’d just give the key to her?
“I didn’t know…”
“You asked for it, and I gave it to you. How could you not know?” I stared at her, my own wolf’s senses heightened, picking up on her subtle deception.
The scent of her fear was barely masked by her attempt at innocence.
Some pack members were still lingering in the den, initially hoping for some gossip, but now they were witnessing the full drama
unfold.
“Seems like Emily always innocently asks Isabella for things.” A low growl rumbled from one she–wolf.
“I felt sorry for her; she lost her parents and brother, living with the Miller pack, always being bullied by Isabella.

Now it seems she was entirely faking it!” Another she–wolf added, her voice dripping with disdain.
Their whispers were soft, but the cavern was quiet enough for their words to reach us all.
Emily’s friends immediately protested.
“You don’t understand! Isabella always makes things difficult for Emily, so Emily misunderstands that she didn’t receive anything?”
The she–wolf who spoke felt awkward after being overheard, muttering, “If she were truly kind, she wouldn’t question Isabella without knowing the facts! Who’s actually making things difficult for whom! Honestly!”
Her voice was laced with the bitter scent of resentment, a clear indication of her own loyalty.
She wasn’t close to me, and after that, she left.
