Chapter276.
I held the documents, my face impassive.
My wolf, however, was simmering.
Faye, though, was seething.
She had witnessed firsthand the coldness and injustices I’d faced at Fire. Those so–called family members had treated me as a tool, discarding me once they were finished.
She had always believed the Millers were oblivious to my contributions. But today proved otherwise my efforts without acknowledgment. It was infuriating!

Even as an outsider, Faye felt my pain. She looked at me, searching for words of comfort.
“Ms. Miller, you…”
I cut her off, my expression calm, as if her report was insignificant. I checked my chronometer, my demeanor icy. “It’s time for the
meeting. Are the preparations complete?”
“What?” Faye blinked, her suppressed emotions momentarily surfacing.
Relief washed over her face as she saw my unwavering focus. It only deepened her respect; I was unshaken–a true leader!
My composure steadied her; she quickly returned to work, retrieving documents.
“Everything’s ready, Ms. Miller.”
Her voice regained its usual sharpness.
As she handed me the files, her eyes showed genuine respect and a hint of unspoken sympathy.
She couldn’t comprehend the burden I carried, maintaining such calm in the face of my family’s betrayal.
What Faye didn’t know was that I wasn’t emotionless; I had simply been hurt too many times in my past life, and I had long since given
up hope for reconciliation with the Miller brothers. My wolf had grown weary of the constant emotional warfare.
I stood, Faye following. We left the office for the meeting den.
In just one day, Fire’s atmosphere had transformed.
As I walked, employees greeted me before returning to their tasks. Fire was no longer gloomy; it pulsed with energy.
I entered the meeting den, all eyes on me. I surveyed the room, noting the stark contrast to yesterday’s meeting, where only a few executives had attended listlessly.
Today, every executive was present, vibrant and engaged. There was even one more than before.
My gaze fell on Dustin, the marketing director who’d been absent yesterday, now comfortably seated. I only glanced at him before
taking my seat.
I didn’t focus on Zeke. But Zeke felt a tightening in his chest; as I sat, he quickly stood, whispering, “Ms. Miller, Dustin was absent yesterday due to a prior commitment out of the territory. He informed me beforehand.”
He was suggesting I shouldn’t dismiss Dustin.

I knew Dustin had been out of territory, but not for work. However, Dustin was more cautious than others. Though close to Emily, he wasn’t reckless. He still fulfilled his duties promptly.
Even if he was away on personal matters, he’d have a plausible excuse–a marketing director needs to be out securing business.
