Chapter309.
“Don’t ask me anything, just give me a straight answer as a friend: can I borrow this money?” My voice was rough, the tension tightening my throat. My wolf paced, restless, sensing the other’s amusement.
The voice on the other end was casual, almost mocking.“Sure, since Alpha Mason asked, I can’t refuse. I’m just curious; is the Miller Pack so strapped they can’t even afford ten million silver marks?”
Their amusement was clear, a sharp scent in the air.
My expression darkened. In the past, that amount would have been insignificant. But even though I no longer managed the Pack’s finances, I knew we were entangled in disputes, suffering losses, barely holding onto our territory. Forget ten million; even one million would be a stretch.
My initial plan had been to use my mother’s heirloom to secure funds, clearing Emily’s name. But Grayson’s deception, and my own actions, had depleted my resources, even exceeding them.
My wolf whimpered, a low whine of frustration.
Clenching my pack communicator tightly, my fingers trembled.
“I’m buying something I don’t want my brother to know about, so I can’t ask him for money.”
The other wolf casually said, “Oh,” maintaining a polite tone.“Okay, no problem. But business is business; we need to follow procedures.”
I grunted in acknowledgment. I heard them instructing subordinates to transfer funds and prepare the contract, a small wave of relief washing
Over me.
During the preparations, they casually asked, “Is ten million enough?”
My wolf bristled.
My lips tightened.“What do you mean?”
“I just noticed you and Alpha Grayson both spend a lot on your sisters. You must be investing in that medical beauty project for her, right? I heard your pack holdings were taken over by your sister.”
Their words were laced with innuendo.
My eyes narrowed.“I don’t have a sister like that!” My wolf snarled, a fierce challenge.
The other wolf didn’t mind, quickly changing the subject.“You don’t have pack holdings under your name anymore, so what are you planning to do with that project? I’m currently backed by Alpha Grayson, and the projects he sells off are ones he doesn’t believe in. No one will buy a project Alpha Grayson doesn’t believe in.”
‘He doesn’t know shit!” I snapped, the insult slipping out. My wolf roared approval.
The Millers disliked Grayson; even I, after Grayson’s repeated provocations, couldn’t restrain my anger.
Realizing my outburst, I pressed my fingers to my forehead, regaining control.
I softened my tone.
