I flashed a sincere smile.“Please come forward for a check–up if you feel unwell.” My wolf felt a surge of power, a confident calm that radiated
outwards.
The square fell silent; the howling mob froze, as if hit by a sudden, chilling gust of wind.
My genuine smile, however, seemed to them a cruel mockery, a taunt from a superior predator.
Their eyes darted away; some even shrank back like pups startled by a strange scent. They jostled and shoved, none daring to step forward.
I smirked coldly. Emily’s pack, I realized, was pathetically weak.
My wolf savored their fear.
“What? Afraid to come forward? Worried the results will expose your lies? Afraid the pack will know you’re a bunch of ungrateful curs, using Fire Pack’s freely given blood–medicine to save your lives, then turning around to bite the hand that healed you?”
These words were like a spark in dry brush, igniting an immediate uproar! The thugs, cornered and exposed, finally tore off their masks–both literal and figurative.
“Why should we cooperate just because you say so?” one snarled, his wolf’s aggression palpable.
“That’s right! We control our bodies!” another howled, his defiance echoing through the crowd.
“You can’t force us!” a third added, his voice raw with fear and anger.
I sighed softly.“I’m not forcing you. I’m doing this for your own good.” My wolf growled internally at their stupidity.
The moment they heard “for your own good,” they exploded!
Their wolves clearly understood the implication: if their check–ups showed them healthy, it would expose them as liars! They’d been paid; they couldn’t allow me to prove their illnesses were cured!
‘it’s for who you
say
“There are too many like
your own good, but actually engage in moral coercion and try to control others!” Stop using ‘for your own good‘ to coerce us! We won’t listen to your nonsense!”
“Who knows if your cold instruments have a hidden curse!”
“Our bodies are already failing, what if these instruments kill us completely!”
“What are you trying to do, Fire Pack! Are you trying to silence us?!”
“I bet you want us dead faster so you can dodge responsibility!”
Facing their increasingly fierce accusations, I sighed again, my wolf feeling a weary patience.
“I truly am doing this for your own good.” My voice held a firmness that cut through their anger, a calm that suggested an unshakeable certainty.
