How the hell did I pull this off?
My wolf felt a thrill, a low rumble of satisfaction deep in my chest.
The scent of victory was sharp and sweet.
At that moment, a figure practically hurled himself against the transparent glass wall of the observation den.

It was Steven, eyes shining with an almost manic intensity, like a silver–furred pup discovering a particularly enticing scent–mark. He traced the outlines of the instruments inside with his paw.
“Is that a hyphenated analyzer? The latest model?” His voice was breathless with excitement. He turned to another device.“And that flow cytometer!
High precision!”
He whipped around, facing me, his excitement practically radiating.
“Isabella! Are these… are these new instruments recently acquired by the pack?
The informal address was familiar and comforting.
I nodded calmly, my own wolf feeling a surge of affection for this enthusiastic beta.
“Yes.”
Alpha Sterling, a seasoned alpha, beside me offered a strained smile and gently pulled the over–enthusiastic Steven away from the glass.“Sorry, Luna Miller, my apologies. This one’s a research fanatic. When he gets like this… well, it’s… embarrassing.” He quickly pulled Steven back, offering an apology.“He lives and breathes research, that one.”
My identity within the Silvermoon Pack was profoundly different now.
My wolf purred softly at the respect in their eyes.
I waved dismissively.“It’s alright.” I didn’t mind their informal address; they’d always been the kindest and most sincere to me. Why would I treat them differently now?
I smiled at Steven.“Steven, once the moon cycle’s shift is over, these instruments will be moved to Fire’s pack laboratory.”
Steven’s eyes gleamed brighter.
Even as Alpha Sterling pulled him away, his gaze lingered on the mobile labs, a yearning in his amber eyes, his head repeatedly turning back. This little detour hadn’t derailed my plans. My wolf sensed the shift in the air, the anticipation of the pack.
I scanned the agitated crowd with a steady gaze.
“Fire Pharmaceuticals–I mean, Fire Pack–always places patient health and safety first. We’re responsible to our pack, responsible to life–that’s our promise and our bottom line.” I gestured to the two powerful alphas beside me, Professors Butler and Waters.
“To address your concerns, to prove Fire Pack’s innocence, and out of respect for every pack member claiming harm, we invited Professor Butler and Academician Waters, equipped with the most advanced testing equipment.”
My eyes landed on the agitated howlers in the crowd.
My wolf felt a prickle of challenge.
