The news—hounds filmed and chattered, making no attempt at subtlety. They clearly weren’t concerned about Caleb overhearing.

Caleb spun around, his eyes blazing at their smug faces.

“Who are you? Who authorized you to film here? This is a violation of Pack law!

Leave immediately, or Miller Industries will pursue legal action!”

At his threat, the news–hounds hastily packed their equipment and retreated.

But they didn’t go far. I saw them regroup in the ruins of the Smith family’s burned–down territory. Only rubble remained of their once–proud home, a stark contrast to our well–maintained territory. They adjusted their angles, pretending to film the devastation, but cleverly framing our territory in the background.

Our territories shared a boundary; any movement on our side was clearly visible. Yet, their commentary focused on the Smith’s territory, making their actions appear innocuous.

Caleb’s claws extended, his knuckles white. This had to be Grayson’s doing!

He was undoubtedly retaliating for Caleb’s use of news–hounds against Fire Pharmaceuticals. He’d hired his own news–hounds to broadcast Emily’s apprehension, intending to humiliate the Millers – all to get back at me, to avenge that she–wolf, Isabella!

Rage boiled within him. If this broadcast portrayed the Millers as protecting a criminal, their reputation would be

shattered!

He composed himself, turning back to the enforcement wolves.

“Await here,” he said. “I will ensure Emily cooperates with your… investigation.” He emphasized the word “investigation,” refusing to acknowledge it was an apprehension.

He entered, ascending the stairs, and stood before Emily’s locked den.

Muffled sobs emanated from within, the whimpers of a wounded animal.

My heart softened, yet anger lingered.

Hadn’t I warned her against reckless actions?
