Chapter 4
Caleb gently cleaned the Mood from Emily’s face
His eyes held a pity that made my will briede
‘Of course not, little one. You’ll always be the innocent pup is our eyes”
He scooped her up and vanished.
1 chuckled mirthlessly, retrieved my bag and mood
Pack servants emerged from the shadows.
“Miss, the Alpha Lord purchased these artifacts for you.
You haven’t collected them.”
1 was about to refuse when the injured he–well, fueled by rage, lunged.
“You think you can PK with me for some slut?! 1 F–King kill your bitch too?
He flung a silver dagger, its blude slashing across my temple
Warm blood cascaded down my back, staining my ceremonial shawl crimson.
I collapsed.
My vision blurred.
Screams.
Panic.
“Help! An attack!”
“Alpha Lord Caleb, your sister is gravely wounded
My brothers, their protective instincts fully engaged around Emily, vanished into the crowd.
Their bond with Emily consumed them, blinding them to my pain.
Isabella, will you finally confess your transgression?”
Emily, already weaving her insidious web of lies, had accused me of ruining her design, even drenching me in ritual cleansing water.
I’d refused to confess a crime I didn’t commit.
Caleb, swayed by Emily’s false charm, had thrown me into the frigid Moonstone Springs as punishment.
Three days of shivering, burning fever in the unheated storage chamber, near death.
Emily, meanwhile, was pampered like a princess.
I pushed through the weakness that gnawed at my body, forcing myself to stand, my gaze locked on Caleb’s.
Their unwavering devotion to Emily was a cage;
I would break free.
