Chapter 48
There’s no need for that. I’d moved on, so it was unnecessary.
My wolf felt a surge of satisfaction; escaping Jared’s control felt incredibly liberating.
I got down to business.
“Whatever they need repaired, just accept it.”
David immediately understood.
“Okay.”
His mental image was sharp; I could feel the gleam of mischief in his mind.
He’s going to make them pay.”
He was going to overcharge them! After all, their Rune–stone technology was his master’s creation, and only the two of them could truly fix it! The Miller brothers had no idea they had tossed aside a powerful ally and picked up a worthless pawn instead!
After our mind–link ended, I went back to jotting down notes, my pen gliding smoothly across the parchment.
Meanwhile, Emily’s mind–link vibrated.
“Ms. Carter, I can repair the Rune–stone, but it’ll cost a significant amount,” David said.
The sheer audacity of his price filled my thoughts, a prickle of amusement dancing on the edge of my senses.
Emily’s eyes lit up.
“How much?”
“One million two hundred thousand,” he sneered, broadcasting the figure into her mind.
“What?! That’s outrageous!” Emily’s voice shot up, nearly breaking! Her wolf’s fear was palpable through the mind–link.
“If you
you think it’s too expensive, find someone else,” David replied with a smirk.
The image of his smirk was vivid; he wasn’t even trying to hide his contempt.
Emily bit her lip; she had already messed up a competition, and with the revival challenge coming up, if the Rune–stone wasn’t fixed, she wouldn’t be able to compete.
How could she restore her image in Jared’s eyes?
Anyway, she could just pay now and ask Jared for the money later.
One million two hundred thousand was steep, but the Miller family could afford it.
“Fine, I’ll do it.”

After the mind–link ended, she dashed to Jared’s room and knocked on the door, “Jared!”
Jared opened the door, seeing her excited face.
Before he could speak, she looked at him excitedly.
Jared, the person I contacted agreed to help with the repairs!”
Jared’s eyes brightened with excitement.
Really? Great!”
“Yes!” she nodded.
“He said he’ll finish within a week!”
Jared joyfully hugged her, his voice full of admiration.
“Emily, you’re amazing! I knew you were reliable!”
He turned and walked to his desk, picking up his communicator to initiate a funds transfer.
“How much is the repair fee? I’ll transfer it to you.”
As he spoke, he couldn’t help but insult me.
“Isabella thought she was important; she dared to challenge us! It’s just a Rune–stone repair; do I need her? Now that Emily found a replacement, let’s see how she acts!” His wolf’s sneer was almost tangible in the air.
