Chapter 49
Hearing him insult me made Emily feel a surge of satisfaction.
Her wolf, however, felt a pang of unease.
He’s so easily manipulated. Watching Jared prepare to transfer the funds, she politely said, “Jared, no need.
I’m happy to help the pack.
We’re family; talking about payment feels awkward.”
“That’s true.” He looked into Emily’s sincere eyes, warmth flooding his heart, and he put his communicator away.
After all, I had repaired and maintained the Rune–stones for the pack without ever asking him for a single silver
coin.
Emily got the same allowances; mine had been deducted; if I could manage, so could Emily.
His wolf felt smug and superior.
He didn’t notice the fleeting shock and resentment on Emily’s face! That was one million two hundred thousand; she was just being polite, and he really wouldn’t give it!
Her wolf growled in frustration.
*Foolish pup.*
“Emily, you’re a good sister; much more sensible than some people.” He flashed a goofy smile, putting his communicator back in his pocket, completely cutting off Emily’s hopes.
She nodded obediently, smiling sweetly, hiding her resentment toward Jared and me.
“Jared, we’re family!” She lowered her gaze, hiding the flicker of resentment deep in her eyes.
That foolish Jared, who was both clueless and annoying! I was also a fool, just working hard, being their tool, and not even getting a little something in return! She wouldn’t be like me; she’d get that money back, and more!
Her wolf planned her revenge.
The day the Rune–stone was repaired, Emily came to the library to find me.
“Isabella, are you studying?”
I glanced up at her, then went back to my scroll.
“I have good news for you.”
Emily sat down across from me, her eyes gleaming with pride.
“I found someone to repair the Rune–stone; it’ll be done.
The pack won’t be affected without you.”

After she finished, she stared at me, hoping to see anger or disappointment in my eyes.
However, I glanced at my mind–link; David had transferred sixty thousand.
raised an eyebrow; so, David had scammed one million two hundred thousand from Emily? Serves her right.”
Oh I replied cheerfully, returning to my reading.
Emily was stunned.
She thought I would be angry, sad, or regretful, but I showed no reaction.,
t felt like a punch hitting a pillow–frustrating! Her wolf whined in disappointment.
