Chapter 518

Two burly Sentinels stood like immovable walls, their eyes glowing with a faint, predatory amber, completely blocking Andrew from entering the VIP
den.
I could practically feel through the heavy air the rage building in Andrew, starting from his paws and surging straight to his brain, incinerating any shred of reason his human side had left. My wolf curled her lip in my mind, sensing his unstable, desperate aura.
He lunged forward, trying to break through with a burst of Alpha–strength, a wild desperation in his eyes, but the Sentinels moved with an effortless precision that almost made me smirk. They were high–ranking guardians of the territory. One grabbed each of his arms, hoisting him up like he weighed nothing more than a limp rag doll, and unceremoniously tossed him out of the corridor.
Andrew stood there, glaring at the now–closed heavy stone door, his fists clenched so tight his knuckles popped audibly. I could see his claws digging into his palms, making him shudder as blood began to scent the air, but even that sharp pain did nothing to douse the venomous fury blazing behind his eyes.
His tight–lipped, furious expression left no doubt: his wolf was snarling for vengeance, and he wasn’t going to let this go.
Andrew scrambled to his feet, spun around, and bolted for the crystal lift, his fingers slamming frantically against the downward rune.
I pictured him slinking into the underground grotto where the transports were kept, ducking behind a stone support pillar, his entire body dissolving into the shadows like a predator stalking its prey.
Every tick of the moon’s cycle felt like a lifetime. Each time the lift doors hissed open and closed, a knot of dread tightened in my own chest–my wolf pacing restlessly–an echo of the tension I knew must be gripping him as he lay in wait.
His wait was finally over.
Sebastian finally appeared, several elite Sentinels closing in around him as he walked towards his Alpha–grade Pack transport.
The moment the Sentinel pulled the heavy door open, I could just picture it: Andrew lunging out from behind the pillar, completely disregarding Pack protocol as he stepped directly in front of the moving vehicle.
‘Mr. Wen!”
His voice, I imagined, was dry and hoarse, thick with a wild, desperate edge that smelled of fear.
The Sentinels immediately swarmed around him, pinning him to the cold floor without effort.
I could almost hear him now, Andrew, practically howling. “Mr. Wen! Just give me a chance! Five minutes of your telepathic time, that’s all!” I imagined him thrashing against the Sentinels, the fur on his neck bristling, desperate. “The Silvermoon Pack has hit a rough patch, yes, but its blood–foundation is still solid! Just invest your clan’s resources, and I promise you, the returns in blood–silver will be higher than you can possibly imagine!”
And I could picture Mr. Wen in his transport, not even bothering to lift an eyelid or extend his mental reach.
He’d just be calmly, almost lazily, adjusting his silver–cuffs. His voice, I knew, would drift out through the enchanted glass–so soft, yet it had the power to make your head spin.
The Silvermoon Pack?”
A laugh, thin and sharp as a silver blade, slipped from his lips, drenched in pure contempt.
“You don’t deserve this alliance.”
The words slammed into Andrew like a sledgehammer directly to his temple.
His pathetic sliver of Alpha–respect, every fragile hope he clung to for his lineage, shattered into a million pieces.
The transport pulled away smoothly, stirring up a breeze of exhaust and pheromones that ruffled his hair, which was plastered to his forehead with
cold sweat.
The Sentinel finally released his grip. Andrew’s legs immediately gave out, and he crumpled into a limp heap on the cold concrete floor.
Why?
I could almost hear the desperate whimper of his wolf echoing in his mind, Why wouldn’t he even give me a single chance?

Then, as if a switch flipped, his eyes snapped toward where I had been, a flicker of something new, something ugly and feral, crossing his face.
In his eyes, I saw the accusation, loud and clear: It’s her! It has to be her!
He must have been convinced I’d poisoned Mr. Wen’s mind against the Silvermoon family, completely blocking any path his clan had.
The raw hate in his gaze screamed the word: Bitch–wolf!

As if ruining the Silvermoon Pack’s reputation wasn’t enough, now I was pushing him to the brink of exile, cornering him until he had nowhere left to
turn.
He stayed sprawled on the cold concrete, his chest heaving with choked sobs that sounded more like dying growls, his eyes burning with an unadulterated hatred that threatened to consume him.
Isabella!
If he was going to be a miserable rogue, he wasn’t going to be the only one.
The Silvermoon Clan Villa.
could almost picture it: Andrew stumbling back into the ancestral home, a complete wreck, probably scaring Susan senseless.
could almost hear Susan’s panicked voice, “Pup, what’s wrong? What happened to your scent?”
And Andrew, I bet, was so beyond furious he just shoved her aside, snarling, “Get out! Goddess, you’re so annoying!”
Whatever he’d attempted at the Citadel had clearly backfired, and I could almost feel his resentment shifting, not just toward me, but toward Susan as vell.
knew they’d pin it all on her. “It’s entirely her fault!” I could almost hear them raging. “If only she’d kept the Pack secrets better concealed, if she hadn’t et me discover the rot, then I wouldn’t despise the Silvermoon name so fiercely, wouldn’t be coming after them with such vengeance!”
le wouldn’t have been forced into a Blood Bond with that lunatic, Julia!
he mere thought of that night and the forced scents made Andrew’s stomach churn with disgust.
le held Susan responsible for his fall from grace, even though she only ever had eyes for her son.
usan’s voice, I could almost hear it, cutting through the tension I imagined still lingering around Andrew. It would have been saccharine, calculating. Still stressing about the territory and the blood–silver?” she’d say. “Actually, there might be a way.”
ndrew, desperate and his wolf whimpering for a scrap of hope, would have looked up, a flicker of desperate hope I could almost picture sparking in
is eyes.
We can just go back to your Aunt,” she’d suggest, the solution already neatly packaged in her mind. “Have the Grant Pack buy the land–domain back gain.”
ndrew’s eyes lit up. “That’s actually a good idea,” he said, his wolf finally quieting.
usan looked at him with a gentle, motherly gaze. “You’re my only pup, sweetie,” she said. “Whatever’s bothering your wolf, just tell me. I’ll figure it out or you.”
he wouldn’t have wasted a second. I knew she’d be reaching for her telepathic link the moment the words were out, dialing Wendy
bout fifteen minutes later, I pictured her hanging up the Howlnet connection, that smug, self–satisfied smile undoubtedly playing on her lips.
t’s all set,‘ I could almost hear her triumphantly announce. “Your aunt agreed. All we have to do is wait for the next moonrise.”
hat evening, my mind drifted to the Grant Pack Estate.
pictured them, perhaps oblivious to the true cost of their bloodlines, sitting down for dinner. For once, I suspected the atmosphere was surprisingly alm, maybe even pleasant,
Vendy set her silver fork and knife down, the subtle clink echoing in the sudden quiet. A moment later, she cleared her throat, and I knew whatever sh as about to say wouldn’t be good.
Careful. Lola accomplished something for our clan today.”

A knowing smile bloomed on her face as her gaze swept across the table. It’s about the Domain 075 property the Silvermoon Pack acquired a few days
igo.”
Carson lifted his gaze to her, staying silent, waiting for his mate to continue.
Lola, that pup, she’s always looking out for the family. She reached out to someone and negotiated a deal with the Silvermoons. They’re willing to ransfer the land–Domain 075–at a very favorable price. It’s perfect for building our first elite Moon–Sanctuary here in the Western Territories?
Wendy’s voice dripped with sickening pride, as if Lola had single–handedly won a territorial war.
When she finished, her gaze locked onto Carson, practically begging for an Alpha’s praise.
But I watched Carson’s face in my mind, and it slowly, subtly, began to darken. A growl started deep in his chest.
A sudden chill seemed to fall over the dining hall.
de set his silverware down with a soft, yet sharp, clink that made the Omegas in the room flinch.
Wendy.”
His voice was flat, devoid of all warmth, and it made the hairs on my arms stand on end even miles away.
Do you know what you’re saying?”
Vendy’s smile instantly froze, a brittle mask.
Carson’s eyes were glacial, his wolf peering through the pupils. “Cooperate with the Silvermoon Pack?” he bit out. “Have you forgotten what they did to sabella? What do you think Isabella’s wolf would feel? You’re stabbing her straight in the heart–core!”
L… Wendy stammered, visibly startled by the sudden Alpha–fire blazing in his eyes. A fierce wave of indignation and resentment seemed to surge hrough her.
ier voice ratcheted up, ready to argue, to fight her mate.
I wouldn’t be doing any of this if it wasn’t for the Grant Pack! For us to establish our dominance quickly in this territory! All you ever think about is our niece! Do you even care about this family’s standing anymore?”
With every word, her agitation mounted, and the sweetness in her tone curdled into something sharp and bitter like wolfsbane.
Besides, that land was originally secured by that ungrateful wretch, Isabella, helping the Silvermoon Pack get their paws on it! Now Lola, with her ood intentions, is finding a way to get the domain back for the Grant Pack, and you’re still talking to me in that tone?
Mom.
‘u, who had been silent, suddenly spoke up.
fis voice was quiet, but it instantly silenced an agitated Wendy.
There’s something wrong with that land.”
(u’s eyes were clear and calm. Dad and I already looked into the ley–lines,” he said. “That domain has serious spiritual subsidence risks. The energy is instable. It’s completely unsuitable for large–scale construction, let alone building a Sanctuary. It’s cursed ground”
The color drained from Wendy’s face, leaving it utterly bloodless in an instant.
the stared at Yu in shock, her eyes brimming with disbelief.
Her jaw went slack, her eyes wide and unfocused, fixed on Yu. The sheer disbelief contorted her features, screaming a silent, agonizing How could this be? without a single sound.
He told me how Wendy’s mind had reeled, as if Susan herself had assured her that the land’s cursed nature was a secret no one would ever uncover.
Her composure shattered for a moment, but then, he said, she’d snapped back, a little too quickly. And she immediately started making excuses for Lola, her voice tight with what I’d guess was guilt.
How could this be?” he recounted her words. “Lola she meant well! She’s just a young she–wolf, how would the know about ley–line stability? She must have been fooled by the Silvermoon Pack!‘
From the way he described it, her reaction had been too swift, her defense too eager.

And be admitted to me that even then, watching his mother, something about her pheromones had struck him as off–sour and dishonest.
Book he’ll sensed a flicker of something else a subtle, almost imperceptible panic that made my own gut clench as he told me.
Dash, the dinner ended on a sour note, with the Pack’s harmony fractured.
Me roll me be went to his father’s study late that night.”
Ne sought out the Alpha specifically, to voice the doubts that were churning inside his wolf.
Dal bell added don’t you think Mom’s reaction tonight was a little strange?”
He paused,
swing his words carefully. “When I pointed out the problem with the domain, her first reaction wasn’t to verify its authenticity, or to be angry that Lola was tricked. Instead… she rushed to defend Lola. It was as if she’d known about the curse all along.”
This works, I later understood, were like a stone dropped into the already turbulent waters of Carson’s mind.
And a struck me then: Wendy’s reaction was completely off.
Tcould almost picture Carson closing his eyes, his wolf mourning. For the first time in over two decades of sharing a Blood Bond, a profound, chilling spicion must have blossomed in him toward his mate.
