Five Alphas Kneel for Me (Isabella) novel Chapter 53

Chapter 53

I raised my gaze, my eyes like chips of glacial ice, piercing Emily.

What are you attempting to convey?

Emily instantly erased the smug expression from her face, adopting a façade of innocence.

I’m merely expressing concern for you, Isabella.

Avoid stubbornness and discord within the pack.

Apologize to Jared, and he will welcome you back.

Won’t you, Jared?

That last sentence was directed at Jared, her tone subtly softening, an oily sweetness coating her words.

My wolf recoiled; the saccharine falseness was sickening.

Jared scoffed, unmoved by Emily’s pleas.

His wolf mirrored his displeasure, a low growl rumbling beneath his controlled demeanor.

I glanced at the meager remains of my meal, feeling utterly repulsed, unable to consume another bite.

Just as I was about to rise and clear my tray, Jared’s communicator buzzed.

He frowned, retrieving it.

Seeing it was a packmate, he excused himself to answer outside.

I addressed Emily.

Your brother has departed; are you not accompanying him?

Jared, not having gone far, heard my voice and returned.

How dare you speak to Emily like that! This is the Great Hall, not our den! Why are you being so discourteous?

Simultaneously, his communicator blared with his packmate’s urgent message:Captain, the skytalon is

malfunctioning again.

Jared frowned, irritation simmering within him.

His wolf bristled with frustration.

What is the nature of the problem?he demanded, his tone impatient.

In the past, I handled such matters, but now he felt the need to report every minor issue so infuriating!

The look he shot me intensified, colder and more resentful.

My own wolf bared its teeth in silent protest.

It’s typical for the skytalon to exhibit problems after use; I am unable to rectify it.

It’s the same issue as before.

Emily should join the pack.

Emily smiled, a triumphant smirk playing on her lips, utterly satisfied that she had completely supplanted me in

everyone’s eyes.

She gazed at me, anticipating the pain and sadness she hoped to see etched upon my face.

Her wolf exulted in its perceived victory.
