Chapter 54
I maintained a composed expression, observing Emily as if she were a particularly amusing spectacle.
My wolf watched her with detached amusement.
When cat eyes met, her heart pounded; a flicker of fear crossed her features, replacing her earlier bravado.
Her face paled.
It suddenly dawned on her–she couldn’t repair the sky–talon! Her fingers fidgeted nervously, and a sheen of sweat glistened on her forehead.
Het wolf whimpered in silent panic.
Jared remained oblivious to her distress.
He wore a relaxed smile.
Emily, the pack’s sky–talon is malfunctioning.
Let us return promptly and address the issue.”
Panic seized Emily.
The previous repair had cost a considerable sum; she had depleted her savings! Now the sky–talon was broken again, and she couldn’t possibly afford another repair! But she forced a calm façade, smiling and nodding.
“Certainly, Jared, I will proceed immediately.”
Jared shot her a satisfied glance, then turned to me, his chin lifted.
“Isabella, do you consider yourself indispensable? You abandoned your pack and your team to taunt me? Observe! My team functions flawlessly without you!”
He scrutinized my face, anticipating disappointment or sadness.
He secretly yearned for me to beg, pleading to return to the pack and the Miller family.
His wolf, though outwardly confident, was gnawing with insecurity.
But my response left him utterly deflated.
I regarded Jared calmly, a slight smirk playing on my lips.
“Is that so? I extend my sincerest wishes for your success in the competition.”
My blessing was genuine; after all, with Emily on his team, victory would be challenging for him.
Jared was taken aback; he hadn’t anticipated that response.
His brows furrowed, and his tone sharpened.
“What is the meaning of this?”

Chapter 54
I picked up my tray and rose, my voice cool and measured.
“Precisely what I stated.
If you intend to repair the sky–talon, do not squander my time here; otherwise, I will ultimately bear the
consequences.”
Jared’s fury flared at my dismissive tone, but by the time his rage threatened to erupt, I was gone.
He remained rooted to the spot, his face darkened by a storm of anger, unable to vent his frustration.
The harsh lighting of the Great Hall accentuated his rigid jawline.
His wolf howled silently within him, its frustration mirroring his own.
