Five Alphas Kneel for Me (Isabella) novel Chapter 540

Alpha Carson chatted amiably with the Riley Pack, escorting them to their pack vehicles, a wide, unwavering smile plastered across his face. My wolf, Lyca, watched him from the shadows of my mind; his Alpha aura was radiating pride, scenting the air with the satisfied aroma of a successful alliance.

Wendy stood stiffly to the side, her eyes tracking their movements. From the tight line of her mouth and the way her fur seemed to prickle beneath her skin, I knew she found the whole display an agonizing sight. To her, every smile Carson shared with the Rileys was a bite taken out of Lola’s status.

Back at the Grant Pack mansion, the air still vibrated with the joyous excitement of a pending blood bond.

I watched as Elder Alpha Grant clutched Miles’s hand, his advice a neverending stream of pack wisdom. Miles, a strong Alpha pup, took it with grace. He and I walked Grandfather back to his sleeping den, ensuring he was settled on his furs for the night before we finally departed.

Later, I knew Carson had returned to the primary den, where Wendy was already resting.

I could only imagine that seeing her, after everything that had happened recently, must have sparked a familiar irritation in his wolf. But then, I understood, remembering how she hadn’t completely messed things up during the Riley Pack gathering today, why his tone towards his mate would have softened a little.

Where did you go? The blood bond ceremony is over, and we couldn’t find you anywhere, Carson rumbled.

Anger churned inside Wendy at the mere mention of what had happened at the Council hallbeing blocked by Grayson’s wolves. But the thought of the move she needed to make next forced the unpleasantness down. She softened her voice, feigning the fragility of a wounded shewolf.

I…I just felt a little unwell. My wolf was restless, she whispered, her voice laced with a sickening false vulnerability. I didn’t want to spoil everyone’s mood, so I just went to the lounge for a bit.

Carson’s eyes landed on her supposedly pale face, and I watched the flicker of irritation in his gaze vanish, replaced by a thread of mateguilt. He clearly believed he’d neglected his Luna.

It’s my fault, Carson’s voice softened, his Alpha scent mellowing. I didn’t notice you weren’t feeling well. Next time, you have to tell me through the link. Don’t try to tough things out by yourself.

Wendy leaned into his embrace, her voice muffled against his chest, thick with feigned regret. Carson, I know I was wrong. I was too extreme before, ɔnly thinking of Lola, and I completely ignored your feelings. I caused so much trouble for the pack.

It’s all in the past,he murmured, his large hand stroking her hair. His wolf was likely purring at the submission. From now on, let’s just be a happy pack.

Mm-hmm,she hummed, burying her face into his chest. But beneath it all, a deep, simmering hatred coiled in her gut, could smell the bitterness even from the hallwayit was like rot hidden under roses.

You’ve had a long day too,she said. ‘I’ll prepare the cleansing bath for you.

invisible to him. My wolf

Without waiting for his answer, she walked into the washden. She even thoughtfully prepared the water for Carson, retrieved essential oils that masked her true pheromones, and began to massage his shoulders and neck. After more than two decades of a blood bond, Carson’s anger simply didn’t last when it came to her.

As Wendy massaged the Alpha, she spoke carefully:

Lolashe actually feels terrible too. She pinged my linkstone, sobbing, saying how sorry she was to us, and especially to you, Isabella. She’s all alone in that distant territory right now, with no packkin to lean on. As her mother, my heart just aches listening to her.

Carson’s patience seemed to thin, his wolf letting out a low, warning huff. But the moment he saw his mate finally give in and admit her wrongdoing, I could almost feel the last of his irritation melt away.

But he didn’t back down. Instead, he said, his voice a low, firm reminder:

As long as she knows she was wrong, that’s what matters,Carson said, his voice firm, almost impatient, as if her understandingwas enough to fix the rift in the pack. But the Howlnet is still in an uproar. She’ll just have to lie low in the foreign territory for a bit.

A wave of sharp, sudden anger seemed to ripple through Wendy as she considered the situation. Her hands clenched, whiteknuckleda subtle tell that almost gave away her wolf’s desire to snap. It took her a beat to regain her composure.

Butshe’s been so idle, and it’s easy for a lone shewolf’s mind to wander. Carson, do you thinkwe could find a position for her at the Grant Pack

Council? It would give her something to do, help her take her mind off things, maybe even learn some skills of the trade. That way, we could also keep an eye on her and not worry so much.

Carson went quiet. Wendy had hesitated before she spoke, almost as if she was humbling her rank, and I imagined it felt to him like she was practically pleading as an Omega would.

Wendy, with her usual Luna arrogance, had never spoken to the Alpha in such a pleading tone. But for Lola’s sake, she was willing to humble herself completely.

knew the Alpha had never liked Lola’s character. I could tell Wendy was lowering her guard, practically whimpering to him. And after all the years hey’d been bound, I knew he wouldn’t want to push the bond to a point of no return. Perhaps, keeping Wendy occupied and settled would actually benefit the pack’s stability.

Fine, he finally conceded. I’ll resonance my assistant in a bit.

A subtle flicker of triumph crossed Wendy’s face before she quickly added, She studied resource allocation! Let’s put her in the Pack Investment Department. They deal with a lot of territory expansion projects there; it’ll be perfect for her to get some handson experience and also show her that he Grant Pack hasn’t given up on her.

Carson’s gaze landed on her face, but he didn’t say a word. Wendy didn’t dare to flinch. I watched her fingertips subtly clench, tightening around the tie

of her robe.

Carson, just trust her one more time. She’s taken such a huge hit to her reputation, she’s bound to learn her lesson this time. She grabbed Carson’s

and, her voice laced with a plea. Besides, she continued, a desperate edge to her voice, every decision she makes still has to go through her department head and you, right? What could possibly go wrong within the pack borders?

Carson listened, his fingers tapping unconsciously on the edge of the furs. He let out a heavy sigh. The days of constant bickering had clearly worn his volf down; he just wanted the discord to be over.

Fine, he finally said. I agree.

Carson’s tapping finger stopped. His eyes fixed on Wendy, glowing with Alpha authority. But you tell her this: if she dares to mess around or break the Pack Covenant again, don’t expect any mercy from me.

imagined Wendy’s eyes lighting up then. You won’t have to worry!she must have promised him. She’ll definitely serve the pack well! Thank you!

Wendy had gotten her way, and I could practically see her turning away, the forced sweetness instantly melting from her face as she shifted out of his ine of sight. Then, I knew, she’d pull out her linkstone, already sending a psychic message to Lola.

It’s done.

Andrew (Bill) or Susan quickly replied: Don’t worry, Sis. This time, we’ll get it right.

I could picture Wendy then, a cold, humorless curve twisting her lips as she looked at the glowing stone, her victory complete.

It wasn’t long before Lola was officially part of the Project Investment Department at the Grant Pack Council. Just a few days later, a psychic resonance landed in the inboxes of all relevant departments her very first investment proposal. It was for an obscure overseas territory energy project, one that seemed to come out of nowhere, barely registering on anyone’s radar.

Then, just a month later, the project suddenly announced a major spiritual breakthrough in the territory, and its value skyrocketed. The Grant Pack’s seemingly insignificant initial investment tripled in a ridiculously short amount of time.

Millions of dollars in profit might not be a gamechanger for a pack as large as the Grants, but the way the other wolves in the company looked at Lola? That was entirely different. Even Carson seemed a little taken aback.

Later, at dinner, Carson unusually brought up the topic. It seems Lola has really learned her lesson this time,he mused, scenting the air with a hint of genuine surprise, and is showing some Alpha initiative.

Wendy listened nearby, her face alight with a perfectly tailored pride. But I knew, with a chilling certainty, a cold sneer was twisting deep inside her

wolf.

It was all a staged play, I realized, one she and Susan had orchestrated long ago. That territorythey were so proud of? Andrew (Bill) had secretly acquired controlling interest ages ago. Every single technical breakthroughwas meticulously planned.

A mere crumb, a small sweetener, to buy Carson’s trust? To them, it was an absolute steal, a bargain beyond measure.

I watched Carson’s demeanor soften, the oppressive atmosphere in the den finally easing. And I knew, with a certainty that chilled my blood, that Wendy saw her chance to bring the interloper back.

Carson, she said, her voice softening to an almost sickening sweetness as she spooned a piece of his favorite stagheart onto his plate. Lola’s been managing a European project lately, and she needs to come back to the territory for a business trip to meet with her partners facetoface.

I watched her pause, her ears twitching as she carefully observed Carson’s expression. Carson’s hand, reaching for a dish, froze midair.

She’s coming back?he asked, his voice flat, his Alpha aura flickering.

Yes, just for two or three days. She’ll leave as soon as the Council meeting is done,Wendy said, her voice unnervingly natural, as if all their past unpleasantness had simply vanished. She’s been so good lately, Carson. We can’t just let her come back to the territory and not even step foot in the incestral home, can we? I was thinking, she could come home for dinner, stay a couple of days in her old den.

Her voice was soft, laced with a subtle plea that plucked at the matebond. Don’t worry, I’ll keep a close eye on her wolf. I won’t let her bother Isabella.

Carson remained silent, and the air around the dinner table grew thick with unspoken tension. I understood the refusal caught in his throat; Wendy’s hopeful face and Lola’s recent good behaviormade sure he was trapped.

……Alright,he finally conceded, nodding. But it’s understood: as soon as the pack business is concluded, she leaves immediately. He added, almost as a

varning, I’m also worried about her being seen by wolves on the Howlnet and causing another scene.

Wendy immediately forced a smile, her tailspirit wagging in triumph. “Okay, I understand.
