Chapter 541
Wendy calculated the timing and arrived at the territory’s transit hub an hour early.
I could practically see Wendy through the pack’s surveillance resonance, her gaze locked on the international arrivals gate, her heart doing a frantic dance of nerves and anticipation. My wolf, Lyca, paced in my mind, sensing the tension in the air even from miles away.
I knew their plan was progressing exactly as they’d hoped; Carson, I was painfully aware, had already bought into Wendy and Lola’s act. But for Wendy, I knew that wasn’t enough. I knew she wouldn’t find a moment’s peace until Lola completely dominated the Grant Pack’s project department.
Finally, after what must have felt like an eternity of waiting, a familiar figure emerged from the gate.
Lola!
Dressed head–to–toe in high–ranking lunar–luxe attire, shaded lenses perched on her face, pulling a suitcase of silver–spun silk behind her–she looked every inch the returning she–wolf celebrity.
I pictured Wendy, her voice brimming with excitement, waving frantically. “Lola!”
Lola, seeing her mother, instantly snatched off her shaded lenses. The arrogant expression she usually wore was replaced in a flash by a look of profound grievance. Her eyes welled up, glowing a faint, pathetic red in an instant! She hurried over, throwing herself into Wendy’s arms.
‘Mom! I’ve missed you so much!”
Her voice was choked with sobs, a performance of absolute pitifulness. I watched as Wendy practically scooped her into a hug, patting her thin back with a practiced, comforting rhythm. “You’ve suffered so much in exile, my poor girl.”
Those two words were all it took to unleash a torrent of tears from Lola. She buried her face in her mother’s shoulder, her frame shaking with sobs, crying like someone who had suffered an unimaginable injustice against the Pack Covenant.
There, there, it is all over nowy,” Wendy murmured, stroking her pup’s hair, but I caught her eyes, sharp and predatory, darting towards the entrance. The moment a tall, severe figure appeared in the doorway, I saw a flicker in Wendy’s eyes–a sudden thrill of Alpha recognition.
And then, he was there.
I watched as Wendy squeezed Lola’s arm, leaning in to whisper urgently in her ear, “Stop crying. Look, see who’s here.”
Lola looked up, her eyes immediately finding Carson as he strode purposefully towards them, his Alpha presence commanding the space. Wendy quickly murmured into her ear, “See? Your dad can say all the harsh things he wants, but he still cares about you deep down. Otherwise, would he have come to pick you up personally? Letting you leave the territory was just to let things blow over on the Howlnet, to protect you.”
And just like a magic trick, Lola’s tears vanished. Her face, tear–streaked moments before, instantly rearranged itself into a mask of remorse and
hyness as she hurried forward.
Dad, she whispered.
Carson gave her a slight nod, and I felt my chest tighten, knowing exactly what that silent assent meant. She was already getting her way. Wendy’s smile broadened, a saccharine sweetness that made my fangs ache. “She just got off the plane, she must be exhausted. Let’s head home to the den. My tomach dropped, knowing exactly who she was referring to.
Carson, however, didn’t budge. He was still waiting, his eyes scanning the arriving passengers with an intensity that told me this wasn’t just anyone.
No sooner had the words left her mouth than a young he—wolf, pushing a luggage cart piled high with what looked like an entire department store’s worth of high–status goods, stepped out of the arrival gate. He was tall, with a confident posture, and while his features held a subtle resemblance to Carson’s, his demeanor was far more refined, his Alpha scent crisp and professional,
He spotted Carson immediately, a warm smile spreading across his face.
‘Uncle, he greeted.
Carson, who’d been so cold and distant just moments before, instantly transformed. His face softened as if winter ice were melting, and he quickly walked up to the young wolf, clapping him firmly on the shoulder.
“Logan, you’re finally back! Must have been a long trip across the borders, huh?”
Wendy and Lola’s smiles, so vibrant just moments before, instantly froze.

Wait. Carson wasn’t here to pick Lola up after all?
Wendy’s face immediately fell, looking as though she’d just been slapped across the face in public by a dominant Alpha, the sting still raw.

And Susannah? The moment her eyes landed on Grant Logan, I could practically see her heart skip a beat. He was stunning, and the way Susannah’s ryes latched onto him, I knew she thought so too. It was clear, by the sheer focus in her eyes, that he eclipsed any other Alpha she’d ever encountered. His handsomeness was a regal, almost aloof kind of beauty, the sort that made you want to admire him from afar but never quite dare to approach his personal space.
I could practically see Susannah’s heart flutter, like a wild deer suddenly startled within her chest, pounding wildly. The earlier awkwardness seemed to vanish from her mind. A blush bloomed rapidly across her cheeks, and she stepped forward, greeting him in what I could only assume was her sweetest voice. “Hi, Grant Logan, I’m Susannah.”
knew there was another branch of the Grant Pack; Carson’s younger brother and his family lived in distant territories overseas. The two sides were listant, and because Susannah had been raised in the Garrett den, she’d only ever known that Vincent had three exceptionally accomplished sons, but she’d never actually met any of them.
Honestly, I hadn’t expected the Grant family to be this genetically blessed. Every single one of them was striking.
That saccharine Logan gege” made Carson falter, just for a beat. He gave Lola a polite glance, but his cool eyes held a clear flicker of confusion.
Then he turned to Carson. “Uncle, my cousin Isabella… she doesn’t really look like this, does she?”
That one sentence made Lola’s face burn, turning a mortified shade of crimson! Her face might have been crimson, but her eyes were screaming. What lid he mean? Was he implying she wasn’t as pretty as me?
Wendy’s expression mirrored Lola’s, but she quickly plastered on a strained smile. “Carson, you’ve misunderstood,” she began, her voice falsely bright. This is Lola, my niece from my side of the family. I’ve taken her in as my own pup, so she’s now part of the Grant family, your sister.”
Logan simply gave a faint nod. “Oh. His tone was distant, polite, but it was clear he had zero interest in this “Lola.”
He didn’t even spare Lola a second glance. Instead, he turned directly to Carson. “Where’s Cousin Isabella?” he asked. “She’s not here today?”
The moment my name came up, Carson’s face lit up with that familiar proud expression again, his Alpha scent blooming with satisfaction.
Isabella had something come up in the Healing Den today, so she won’t be able to pick you up.”
Wendy, already simmering with resentment because she knew Grant Logan’s interest was set on me, latched onto Carson’s explanation. Her voice,
harp and laced with a blatant challenge, cut through the air. “What could possibly be more important than bringing Grant Logan home to the pack?”
Carson shot her a displeased look, and honestly, I couldn’t blame him. She always got irrational the moment Lola was mentioned. His tone sharpened. She has a very important Blood–Core treatment today.”
He explained, “It’s a cranial core–blockage patient. The growth’s location is incredibly dangerous–no healer, domestic or international, has dared to >perate. The psionic nano–motes Isabella’s been developing are the patient’s only hope. Today, she’s personally operating them to perform a leep–tissue resonance purge.
Carson wasn’t just explaining things to Logan; his words were a clear warning meant
for Wendy too.
After my psionic nano–technology was successfully applied in pack medicine, I had already established partnerships with several top Healing Dens across the territory. But even those experienced healers were far less skilled than I was when it came to the precise telepathic operation of the
nano–motes.
I was spread too thin and couldn’t possibly treat every single patient myself, so I’d set a rule: I would personally perform procedures only twice a month, reserving my time for the most challenging and critical cases. Today happened to be one of my ritual surgery days.
Logan listened, a smile playing in his eyes as he said, “Cousin Isabella is truly incredible. Her wolf must be as strong as her mind.”
He then ignored Wendy’s attempts to pick a fight and moved on to serious pack business with Carson.
Uncle Carson,‘ Logan said, ‘the main reason I’ve returned is to represent the lab overseas and discuss a potential partnership with Fire Tech for the introduction of psionic nano–motes.”
“It’s all pack business, Carson said easily. “Isabella will be back at the den soon, and then you can all discuss it together.”
Carson was clearly at ease. He knew I valued pack loyalty, and he seemed to believe Grant Logan’s family held those same principles, so he was confident our collaboration would be smooth sailing and didn’t give it a second thought.

As Carson and Grant Logan walked side–by–side toward the parking lot, engrossed in their conversation about their families‘ latest expansion, they left Wendy and Lola behind as if they’d completely forgotten them.
Wendy and Lola remained rooted to the spot, awkward and neglected, like two forgotten pieces of luggage left on the transit floor. As Wendy watched the two Alphas‘ backs, still deep in their cheerful conversation, her face hardened–a clear sign she felt her status as Luna had been utterly neglected.
The indignation on Wendy’s face was palpable; Carson had dared to dismiss her so casually in front of a foreign Alpha. She likely blamed Carson’s treatment for Grant Logan’s obvious lack of deference, as if his disrespect was a direct consequence of Carson’s attitude towards his own mate.
