Chapter 623.
On the construction site of the ‘Heart of the Washington Packlands,‘ dust swirled, and heavy machinery roared like restless beasts.
I walked through the territory, my yellow hard hat a bright beacon against the dusty chaos. My wolf, Lyra, was alert, her ears twitchin at the rhythmic thud of the steel pillars being driven into the earth.
Behind me, Faye and the project manager followed, their scents tinged with the stress of the deadline.
“Ms. Miller, demolition in Zone A is complete, and all materials are on–site. We can begin construction anytime.”
I listened to the report, nodding as I tracked the scent of fresh concrete and old earth.
Suddenly, my gaze dropped, and I spotted a black armored pack transport–a Cullinan–parked just below the scaffolding.
The heavy door swung open.
A long, lean leg emerged, and then he stepped into full view. Grayson. His face was so devastatingly handsome it felt almost like an affront to the gods. Even from this height, the sheer pressure of his Alpha pheromones hit me, clear and commanding even through the haze of the construction site.
He wore a perfectly tailored designer suit, a stark contrast to the dusty, booming site, yet in some inexplicable way, he fit right in. He was the Alpha; he commanded the space around him as if the very atoms of the Washington Packlands belonged to him.
I noticed him and made a slight gesture with my hand. My wolf gave a joyful little yip in my mind. Faye, who had been reporting, instantly fell silent, sensing the shift in the air.
Then, I, usually so composed and dignified as a she–wolf of my standing, suddenly clutched my safety helmet and darted towards the

Grayson took a step forward, closing the distance between us, his Alpha aura enveloping me. His fingers laced with mine, his skin hot and grounding.
He held up the lunchbox, a lazy, charming smile playing on his lips.
“Came to bring you lunch.”
I pressed a hand to my forehead, a helpless sigh escaping me. Lyra was wagging her tail so hard I thought I might actually shift.
He was just… him.
“It’s all dust here, Grayson. Where are we going to eat?” I glanced around, seeing nothing but steel and concrete. There wasn’t even a clean place to sit in this rugged landscape.
Grayson, however, simply squeezed my hand, completely unfazed by the lack of luxury.
“Come with me.”
He tugged me gently, leading me out of the building still buzzing with renovation. Just then, a sleek, soundproofed Mobile Command Unit–an RV–pulled up right in front of us. Grayson opened the door and ushered me into the scent–locked interior.
The engine purred to life, carrying us away from the dusty site until it pulled to a stop near a serene park on the edge of the pack’s forest.
He rolled down the window, revealing a view of lush greenery and the scent of damp pines outside.
Grayson set the lunchbox on the small table and began opening it, layer by delicate layer.
Exquisite dishes appeared, their enticing aromas filling the small space and making my wolf’s stomach growl.
Spicy silver cod, delicate crab roe meatballs….
Every single dish was something I loved. It was clearly the work of a high–tier pack healer–chef, and the temperature was absolutely perfect, as if it had just come off the flame.
He handed me chopsticks.“Eat up,” he urged. “It won’t taste good once it gets cold.”

I frowned, my heart aching for his recovery.“But you should be resting. The Blood–Core Replacement was taxing.”
Grayson looked at my slightly furrowed brow, but instead of backing down, he pushed the bowl of soup he’d prepared even closer to
Watching you is the best rest.”
Listening to his low, magnetic voice, my heart skipped a beat. His pheromones were like a warm blanket, thick with affection and a subtle, underlying heat.
He always had a way of leaving me utterly speechless.
Drink your soup quickly, or it’ll get cold,” Grayson urged.
With a helpless sigh, I picked up the soup bowl. I stared at him stubbornly, not touching the soup yet.
Grayson
let out a helpless sigh of his own.“My enforcers handle things; I don’t need to worry my wolf over it. I just gave an order through the Howlnet, that’s all.”
As he spoke, he took the spoon from my hand, scooped up a spoonful himself, and brought it to my lips.
Open up.”
I watched him intently, checking that his hand was steady and that no trace of weariness shadowed his amber eyes. Only then did I finally lower my gaze to the spoon poised at my lips.
He hummed a soft “Hmm?” from deep in his throat–a gentle, almost silent wolf–coaxing to get me to open my mouth.
I finally parted my lips, and the warm, comforting liquid slid down my throat, its rich, savory flavor blooming deliciously on my tongue.
It was my absolute favorite.
Grayson scooped another spoonful, continuing to feed me as if I were his most precious pup.
1 pursed my lips, reaching out to take the spoon.“I can do it myself…”
But Grayson pulled it away, his Alpha dominance flashing playfully in his eyes.
