Chapter 82

I turned to Jared and Caleb.
‘See? The wronged she–wolf doesn’t play the obedient role.” My own wolf felt a surge of righteous anger.
The scent of their unease hung heavy in the air, a mix of fear and guilt.
They froze, confusion flickering in their eyes.
Their own wolves whimpered, fragmented memories of past injustices flooding their minds.
How had they reacted when I was hurt?
Blaming me for being unreasonable, accusing *me* of overreacting.
Their scent shifted – a cloying sweetness of self–justification quickly replaced by the acrid tàng of guilt.
When Emily, her own wolf’s scent sharp and demanding, said she envied the Moonstone Caleb gifted me, how had they responded? Ignoring my feelings, they snatched it away to give to her, then scolded *me* for being stingy, heir wolf’s arrogance sharp and overpowering.
They fell silent, their expressions shifting, their wolves subdued.
They questioned their actions, feeling uneasy.
They’d been excessive; I’d stated the Moonstone was a gift, and it shouldn’t have been given away.
Why hadn’t they gifted Emily a new one? My wolf snarled internally, a low rumble of righteous anger.
What was the reason? Their hesitation was palpable; a clear scent of uncertainty.
Seeing their hesitation, Emily bit her lip, her eyes filled with hatred, her wolf’s scent sharp and bitter.
She rushed to me, feigning grievance.
‘Isabella, I’m not angry; I know you’re upset.
Caleb and Jared miss you; they want you to come home.
If you’re upset about me, I’ll leave.”
Her wolf’s scent attempted to project vulnerability, a pathetic whimper against my own dominant presence.
I looked at her coldly.
Her overly–obedient demeanor made Caleb and Jared’s wolves feel sympathetic again.
‘Emily, don’t! We said when we took you in that the Silvermoon Pack is always your home! You don’t need to leave!”
Caleb’s wolf, usually so strong, seemed almost cowering.
She almost smiled, a predatory gleam in her eyes.

Her wolf was playing them masterfully.
She reached for me.
I didn’t want her to touch me, so I sidestepped, my wolf bristling.
Emily immediately put on a wounded expression, her wolf’s scent trying to overpower my own.
“Isabella, are you still angry? I’ll kneel and apologize; please come home…”
A blatant attempt at manipulation.
With that, she pretended to kneel.
This tactic of retreating to advance put her in the position of the victim, trying to reignite Caleb and Jared’s protective instincts, their wolves already vulnerable to her scent.
Caleb immediately yelled, “Emily, don’t! You didn’t do anything wrong!”
His wolf was already under her spell.
Jared rushed forward, but his leg pained him.
He still looked at Emily with sympathy.
The scent of his injured pride and his wolf’s weakness was evident.
“Emily, don’t kneel!” He looked up, glaring at me.

“Isabella! How dare you make Emily kneel and apologize!” His wolf’s anger was a weak, frantic scent compared to
mine.
Grayson’s dark eyes glinted with amusement, a smirk playing on his lips.
His wolf’s amusement was a palpable, sharp scent.
‘Which one of you heard Isabella ask this she–wolf to kneel?”
His wolf’s scent was powerful and commanding, a stark contrast to the chaos around them.
