Chapter 99
If I showed up, it meant I still cared a little about them. In the end, Caleb was going to be disappointed again. The only ones who came in were Jared and Emily.
Their scents, familiar yet tinged with something harsh and unpleasant, filled the air. My wolf recoiled.
Jared noticed Caleb’s gaze, feeling irritated. He knew what Caleb was hoping for–or rather, who he was hoping
fot. His wolf bristled with resentment.
“Caleb, how are you feeling?” Jared asked, trying to suppress his displeasure.
Caleb forced a weak smile.
I’m fine, just a little dizzy. The doctor said I can go home after observation tonight.”
Jared sneered sarcastically.
“Caleh, you’re still hoping that ungrateful she–wolf will visit? She’s heartless! When the hospital howlnet contacted us, she was right there! She was busy enjoying herself; she didn’t care about you at all!” His wolf’s anger was palpable, a sharp, bitter scent.
Caleb’s expression froze; pain flashed in his eyes. He sighed softly.
“Jared, don’t say that. Maybe we do hurt Isabella.”
Hurt her?” Jared’s voice shot up an octave.
“Caleb, how did we hurt her? She messed up, and we just wanted to teach her a lesson, to help her grow into a sensible she–wolf. But her? She doesn’t appreciate it at all! She just storms out!”
His wolf’s growls were barely suppressed.
The more Jared spoke, the more agitated he became, his voice echoing in the hospital room:“Look at her now, with Grayson, completely disregarding us. We’ve done so much for her, and she shows no gratitude!”
“Enough!” Caleb stopped him, his voice unusually stern.
“Stop it.”
His voice trembled slightly, revealing a hint of barely concealed pain.
He held his head, memories of overlooked details flooding back before he fainted; they had indeed neglected: Isabella. His wolf whimpered, a low, pained sound.
Jared was about to continue when Emily stopped him, gently taking Caleb’s hand.
“Caleb, don’t be agitated. You need to rest. Would you like some water?”
Emily’s scent was calm, a contrast to the tension in the room.
Caleb’s
gaze
fell on Emily, his eyes softening a bit. He nodded slightly.

“Thank you, Emily.”
Watching her pour water, Caleb felt relieved.
Emily was understanding.
Even if they’d overlooked me a bit for her sake, it was understandable.
After all, her brother died saving me! But a cold dread snaked through him.
But no one noticed that Emily, with her back turned to them, wore a terrifyingly dark expression!

Her wolf was seething, a venomous scent filling the air. She had already pushed me away, and I had severed ties with them so coldly, yet they still thought of me!
An adopted she–wolf was inferior to a biological she–wolf!
She turned, her expression once again obedient.
“Caleb, are you feeling better?”
Caleb drank the water slowly.
His face was pale; dark circles were under his eyes; he forced a weak smile.
“I’m fine; I just haven’t slept well.”
Emily frowned, worried.
“Caleb, weren’t you better? Why are you having insomnia again?”
Jared stood nearby, his brows knitted tightly, anger flickering in his eyes.
He waved his hand sharply, his voice filled with rage:
“Isn’t it because Isabella caused all this chaos, making our home a mess! Caleb must be overthinking, that’s why his insomnia flared up again.”
Hearing this, Caleb lowered his eyes. His voice was low and forlorn, as if to himself.
“Not because of Isabella… It’s because I used to drink Isabella’s medicinal soup to help with my sleep, combined with her massages, that my insomnia got better.” His wolf whimpered, finally understanding the truth.
