Lilian grew more anxious at home after the call was disconnected.
Ethan’s coldness gave her an unprecedented sense of crisis.
His complex, restrained gaze as he watched Grace Hart on stage at the banquet was like a thorn that had lodged itself deep in her heart.
Could he… be regretting his choice?
No… impossible.
Ethan loves me most! He said so himself!
Lilian tossed and turned all night, her fear growing with every passing thought.
After she called him three times in a row, only to have him hang up each time, her terror finally peaked.
Ignoring the dark circles under her eyes, she grabbed her car keys and rushed out.
She was going to his office to find him!
She needed to confront him and get a clear answer!
Thirty minutes later, a pink Maserati pulled up in front of the Ward Group building.
Lilian, wearing four-inch heels, stormed inside like a whirlwind.
The receptionist quickly stood up. “Excuse me, ma’am, do you have an appointment?”
“Get out of my way!”
Lilian shoved her aside and made a beeline for the CEO’s private elevator.
*Bang!*
She kicked the door to the CEO’s office open.
Inside, several department managers were giving their reports to Ethan. Everyone froze, startled by the sudden intrusion.
Ethan looked up and saw Lilian’s furious face. A flash of utter annoyance crossed his bloodshot eyes.
“What are you doing here?”
His voice was as cold as ice.
His unfamiliar gaze stung Lilian, but jealousy and insecurity had already clouded her judgment.
She pointed at him, her voice sharp and accusatory. “Why did you hang up on me? Were you with that bitch Grace last night?!”
“Have you been contacting her behind my back?!”
“Let me tell you something, Ethan, I am your wife! Everything you have now is mine! If you think you can just dump me and go running back to that bitch, you’ve got another thing coming!”
He looked at Lilian, and the last shred of warmth in his eyes vanished.
“Are you done making a scene?”
Still fuming, Lilian was oblivious to the gravity of the situation.
“Making a scene? Ethan, search your conscience! Would I be here if you weren’t hiding something? Are you still thinking about Grace? What kind of spell has that woman put on you?”
“Enough!”
Ethan slammed his hand on the desk and shot to his feet.
He walked toward Lilian step by step until he was looming over her.
His gaze was cold, distant, and filled with disappointment and finality.
“Lilian, just look at yourself right now.”
“Crude, ignorant, like an uncultured maniac.”
“How could I have ever thought you were innocent and kind?”
Lilian took a step back, unable to believe what she was hearing.
