Five Years Wasted Now They Beg Her Back novel Chapter 155

“Ms. Hart, let’s not mince words.”

Marianne elegantly crossed her legs, her tone soft but completely devoid of kindness.

“I’ve already investigated your past.”

“You were the unfavored child in the Hart family, bullied by your brothers.”

“You were married to Ethan for five years, serving as their free maid and personal blood bank, only to be thrown out in the end.”

“You were even accused of plagiarism. And while you were eventually exonerated, your reputation was already ruined.”

Every sentence was like salt rubbed into Grace’s old wounds.

But Grace found that she didn’t feel the pain.

Perhaps it was because the Grace who could feel that pain had died long ago.

Now, she had Damien.

“You’ve done your research, ma’am,” Grace said calmly, her tone respectful but firm. “But that’s all in the past.”

“The past?” Marianne scoffed. “Ms. Hart, for families like ours, the past is everything. Our foundation is everything.”

“Do you really think that a divorced woman like you, with so many blemishes on your record, whose own family has disowned her, is worthy of the Clarke family?”

“What can you bring to Damien?”

“Connections in the business world? A powerful family network?”

“Neither.”

Marianne leaned forward slightly, her presence imposing.

“You will only be a burden to him, a weakness for others to attack, and a stain on the Clarke family’s name that can never be washed away.”

Grace’s hands, resting on her lap, tightened into fists.

She took a deep breath, lifted her head, and looked directly into Marianne’s eyes.

“Auntie, I may not have a prestigious family background, nor can I offer a dowry that would bring immense benefits to the Clarke family.”

“But I have a heart that loves him.”

“My work at the research institute might not compare to the Clarke family’s business, but I am contributing to society in my own way.”

“And besides…” Grace paused, her gaze becoming unshakeably firm, “Damien chose me. I didn’t chase after him relentlessly.”

“If you truly care about him, you should respect his choice.”

Marianne was clearly not expecting this seemingly gentle woman to talk back.

“I can earn my own money.”

“As for how wonderful Miss Hale is, that has nothing to do with me.”

“Unless Damien tells me himself that he doesn’t want me anymore, I will never let him go.”

“You!” Marianne was so angry her perfect makeup looked like it might crack.

Just then, the sound of urgent footsteps came from the stairs.

Damien rushed down, immediately moving to stand in front of Grace.

Behind him was Harold, his face livid.

Damien shielded Grace behind him, his eyes like ice as he looked at his mother.

“Mom, cut it out.”

“My marriage is not a bargaining chip for you to trade.”

Marianne, seeing her son so protective, became even more furious.

“Damien! I’m doing this for your own good! That Miss Hale…”

“If that Veronica isn’t afraid to die, she’s welcome to try.”
