Five Years Wasted Now They Beg Her Back novel Chapter 183

Damien left, and the hospital corridor returned to a dead silence.

But the quiet didn't last long.

The sound of high heels approached.

Click, clack, click.

The rhythm was steady.

Grace looked up to see a middle-aged woman in a Chanel suit walking over, a flashy young woman on her arm.

It was Damien's aunt, Irene Clarke.

And the girl… Grace vaguely recognized her.

She was some B-list actress named Celia Brooks.

She was also one of Damien’s many past admirers, with a reputation for being shamelessly materialistic.

“Well now, this must be Grace, right?”

Irene’s face was plastered with a smile so fake it looked like something from a wax museum.

“All alone here? You poor thing.”

As she spoke, her eyes scanned Grace from head to toe.

Cheap clothes, no makeup.

Aside from her undeniably stunning face, there was nothing about her that screamed ‘heiress of a powerful family.’

“Can I help you?”

Grace didn’t stand up.

Her leg hurt, and she didn’t want to move.

“Can’t I just stop by to see how things are?”

Irene wasn’t annoyed; in fact, her smile widened.

“I heard my sister-in-law got so upset she fell ill. Tsk, tsk. She always was so high-strung.”

“Not like me. I think Grace is just fine. Her background is… a little lacking, but she’s beautiful.”

She turned and patted Celia’s hand.

“Celia, dear, you should learn a thing or two from her.”

“How to bewitch a man so completely that he’d turn his back on his own family.”

Celia covered her mouth to giggle, but her eyes were full of contempt.

“Mrs. Clarke, please don’t joke. I could never learn such tactics.”

“I heard Ms. Hart used to play the victim to get ahead. I’m too afraid of pain to try something like that.”

Grace’s gaze turned to ice.

Before long, Damien returned.

The moment he stepped out of the elevator, Celia rushed toward him, her voice dripping with sweetness.

“Damien!”

The sound of it made Grace’s skin crawl.

Damien sidestepped her, causing Celia to stumble into empty air.

“What are you doing here?” Damien’s brow furrowed in disgust.

“Mrs. Clarke told me Mr. Clarke was ill, so I came to see…” Celia’s lips trembled as tears welled in her eyes.

“Damien, you were never like this before.”

“Is it because of her?” she asked, pointing an accusing finger at Grace.

“What’s so great about her? She’s just some divorced tramp—”

“Shut up!” Damien roared.

“If you don’t want to disappear from this city, then get out. Now.”

His expression was terrifying.

Celia trembled, but then she remembered the promise Uncle Martin had made her—if she could stall Damien for just ten minutes, he would find a way to get her that lead role.
