“Saved you? Ha!” Lucian laughed as if he’d heard the funniest joke in the world. “How come no one’s saving me? Why would anyone save you? It’s because of that siren face of yours, isn’t it!”
Cassian sneered, the disgust in his eyes practically overflowing.
“That’s enough, Grace. Stop telling these ridiculous lies.”
“Do you think we don’t know what kind of person you are? You’re unscrupulous, willing to do anything to get ahead. You even committed academic fraud. Is there anything you wouldn’t do?”
Lies...
Unscrupulous...
Grace looked at her own flesh and blood and felt a sense of absurd tragedy.
So this was who she was in their eyes.
They wouldn’t believe a single word she said.
Just then, Lilian’s “understanding” voice piped up again.
She let go of Grace and walked over to her two brothers, looking as if she were about to burst into tears.
“Cassian, Lucian, please don’t talk to Grace like that...”
“She... she must have her reasons...”
“She’s all alone now, she must be heartbroken... We’re her family. We should try to be more understanding...”
With that, she turned and, with false concern, reached out to support Grace.
“Grace, don’t be angry with our brothers. They’re just worried about you... Here, let me help you to the sofa...”
That hand, with its perfectly polished pink nails, reached for her arm again.
The sight of that deceitful face, the smell of her cloyingly sweet perfume, made Grace’s stomach churn even more violently.
The instant Lilian’s hand was about to touch her, Grace recoiled as if bitten by a snake, taking a sharp step back and forcefully shaking her off.
“Don’t touch me!”
The shout took every ounce of her strength.
“Grace... you... why did you push me...?”
“I know you don’t like me... but I was just trying to show I care... How could you...”
She sobbed, gasping for breath as if she were about to faint.
Cassian’s and Lucian’s expressions changed in an instant.
“Lilian!”
Lucian was the first to rush over. He swept Lilian into his arms, and seeing the blood pouring from her forehead, his eyes went red with fury.
He snapped his head up, glaring at Grace like an enraged beast.
“Grace! You vicious bitch! You’re fucking dead!”
Cassian also hurried over, pulling a handkerchief from his pocket to press carefully against Lilian’s wound. His face was as dark as a storm cloud.
“Grace! You’re insane!”
