Five Years Wasted Now They Beg Her Back novel Chapter 218

He smiled, his gaze open and frank.

"It's my duty. To serve and protect."

"Besides, Grace was always an excellent student back in school. All of us old classmates have been thinking of her."

Damien snorted.

"Thinking of her?"

"More like you've had your eye on her."

"Felix," Damien said suddenly.

"Mr. Clarke."

"Show our guest out."

Damien gave the order to leave without any ceremony.

"I need to rest."

Grace turned around with the glass of water, surprised by Damien's rudeness.

"Damien, he was kind enough to come see you..."

"I'm tired."

Damien closed his eyes, clearly refusing to communicate.

Seeing this, Elliot knew he shouldn't stay any longer.

"Then I won't disturb Mr. Clarke's rest."

Elliot looked at Grace, his expression softening.

"Grace, if you need any help, call me anytime."

"My number hasn't changed."

With that, he turned and left the room.

The room fell silent again.

Only the soft hissing of the humidifier could be heard.

Grace held the glass of water to Damien's lips.

"Have some water."

Damien didn't open his mouth.

He just stared intently at Grace.

His expression was full of grievance, like he'd been deeply wronged.

"What's wrong?"

Grace was baffled.

"'My number hasn't changed,'" Damien repeated in a sarcastic, mocking tone.

"You still remember it? And you're supposed to call him anytime?"

"Grace, is it appropriate to be flirting with another man right in front of your husband?"

Grace was left speechless.

She was so exasperated she almost had to laugh.

A very faint, yet nostalgic smile appeared on her face.

To Damien, seeing this was like a punch to the gut.

She was smiling.

She was smiling for that other man!

He'd been lying in this bed for two days, nearly died, and she hadn't smiled like that for him once!

*Clatter!*

Damien swatted the apple out of Grace's hand.

The apple rolled onto the floor, gathering dust.

The paring knife also fell, making a sharp clatter.

Grace jumped in fright.

"Damien, what the hell is wrong with you?"

She stared at the apple on the floor, at a loss.

Damien's eyes were red, his chest heaving.

The movement pulled at his wounds, making him grimace in pain, but he didn't make a sound.

"What am I thinking?"

"I'm thinking, maybe I woke up too soon?"

"If I had died, would that have conveniently made room for your childhood sweetheart?"
